One of the first skills to master in the ground-up real estate game is learning how to read blueprints. The good thing is, it's a lot simpler than it may seem.

Think about blueprints or construction drawings as a step-by-step guide to constructing your building. It includes a site plan, foundation plan, floor plan, framing plan, elevations, sections, details, joist/truss layouts, etc. It also includes any notes on required building codes, structural engineering, energy efficiency, or any other specialty building practices that need to be followed.

The construction drawings are your roadmap for your new build. Each trade will work off of different parts of the drawings and it's your job to bring them together to facilitate that.

This set of drawings is a very in-depth plan for a 24-unit apartment building. In this video, I take you through each page and show you step by step how to interpret them and what you need to know from a business builder/investor standpoint.
