what happened to eq before compression, instead of saturation then compression ?

Is there something equivalent I can do for using downward RMS compression (the presswerk plugin at 6:44). is there another free plugin that can do something similar? or could I skip this step?

I have one beat that I bought, it sounds nice, but the luffs meter shows me when I mixed the vocals and did the mastering at the beginning of the song - 15 luffs and when the kicks and snares start - 10, is that too much of a difference and could it mean that the kicks are too loud and that when the song is broadcast on the radio it will be uneven? Or is it normal for the difference to be so big?

It sounds "powerful" in solo, but imo if the result isn't shown in the context of the mix this is all pretty pointless. If the vocals are fighting against a dense sounding mix, this might not even do the trick and techniques like doubling would have been a better option.
