Why should the players who rejected the LIV offers be given anything? Why should LIV players be penalized financially if they should return to the PGA?

I live in Minnesota, we have hosted the Ryder Cup, PGA and have the annual 3M tournament. Thousand of volunteers are needed to run these events. Perhaps the PGA & LIV can ponnie up some money to pay those workers who get NOTHING to help both organizations and players make millions.

I believe that LIV WAS NOT mentioned intentionally in the agreement? Why? Because the PIF has right of first refusal to any NEW project proposed for the for-profit company.
PIF currently owns LIV Golf and it remains as leverage for the PIF in any future projects. The LIV wins because they will now get OWGR points, can be reinstated in PGA, play in Ryder Cup, get major sponsorship and TV contracts.
Jay said he had to do this because the PGA could not compete against the PIF's money. That's still true and will remain so in the future. The PIF now owns Jay and the PGA as they are now the poor relations in this marriage. Jay basically said they could NOT sustain the bigger purse money and bonuses they set up for this year.
Personally, I like the shotgun format better and the Team concept which makes the last day much more exciting. Now maybe the PGAT players will know how much they've been getting short changed by the Tour like Phil has said for years.
Adios PGA, LONG LIVE LIV !!!

Everyone gets a trophy mentality is your view. PGA tour players chose the safety of the PGA over the risk of LIV. Everyone connected to the PGA from the sponsors to the Golf Channel to CBS and NBC who air the PGA events to all the corrupt golf media tried to damage the LIV players. If anyone deserves compensation for damages it is the LIV players not the PGA players.

I wonder if the tournament sponsors took a stand - and said enough is enough - if you want to increase to match LIV - go somewhere else, add on the legal fees, LIV player placing very high in the majors and even wining one, has put the PGA Tour in a corner, with no way out but taking this action.

When Monahan met with players in June of last year he told the players that there would no possibility of LIV players ever returning to the tour and they were creating the $$$ elevated events and later announced LIV like events for the top players. He was doing everything he could to prevent more players leaving but he was really lying to the entire tour - they never had the money to pay out all the new purses and events - it was all designed to appease the players but all complete BS. He should be sued and then fired from the PGA tour.

I have heard rumors as well that the United States trade commission is looking into this as well and might not let the merger go through. People have been saying it will have monopolized golf in a way that isn’t good for the game.

They should not get a thing. If they truly made a decision on morals and not because they didn’t have the guts to take the risk. Then they shouldn’t want any money. Morally nothing has changed.

Could of been avoided if Jay and Company sat down with Liv from the start time for a change of management need people who have vision not these old farts who don’t want change

Am I missing something? I keep seeing MERGE between PGA and LIV. What is the merger? As I see it this is a money deal between PIF and PGA. LIV is still LIV (for now) and funded by PIF. So, what is the merger?

Lol - Phil must be laughing with me. The reserves are spent but I don’t expect PIF to invest funds to make compensation payments to the “loyalists” .. the fines money sure but if add this to the PiP and elevation events payments plus OWGR points I think it will equal

Isn’t the PGA Tour supposed to be for the players first? Starting to feel like those that stayed have been used as leverage. If Rahm went this would have dealt another blow to the Tour. Part of the attraction for Corporate Sponsorship (and the casual fan) was the undoubted great work that the Tour enabled…Losing charitable status also means the army of volunteers now will also need to be compensated or may not be as forthcoming. Doesn’t a Chairman also have the right to fire a CEO - especially if they are holding the purse strings. Am struggling to see a positive outcome for the current Tour..

I could not disagree with you more about the players how stayed with the PGA Tour getting equity stakes and LIV players not. Firstly I think no player should get stakes as this company should serve generations of players not just the current ones. The PGA Tour and its lackies argued players should not be given money just for turning up (as in LIV) now players will be getting just that.

But the biggest thing here is that the PIP money went up, PGA Tour prize funds went up because of those brave enough to take the whole backlash and possibly destroy their careers to go to LIV. Future prize funds will be higher because players were brave enough to go to LIV. This equity would not be available at all if players hadn't gone to LIV. The LIV players are the reason that I think (hope) golf will be better in the future they broke the cosy club and are bringing golf into the future.

I don't buy the whole loyalty thing. Players weighed up the pros and cons and made their decisions. People should live with those decisions. Players turned down LIV that was their choice. They thought they backed a winning horse. For most that turned out to be wrong.

Why should the players be compensated? Real talk. Because the PGA are hypocrits? They all had a choice, they chose to stay with the PGA. Nobody elses employers cut them checks for saying no to other jobs. The PGA is a duck in a pond, scrambling to get any amount of control back that they can.

You simply can’t compete with a 600b. Competitor with no intent to make money.

A monopoly is not good for any enterprise, unless it’s strictly regulated! That will never happen and golf will fail as a sport on the big stage!

Unfortunately money speaks volumes. Look what Kerry Packer did for cricket. Eventually he and the Marylebone Cricket Club did a deal and everyone was better off. It change cricket for the better. The LIV/PGA deal was inevitable. As for those that turned down LIV offers to stay loyal to the PGA, they are the ones that should get some equity in the new organisation, in proportion to the sums that they turned down.
