That isn't how it works. More than likely someone moved from the flight by the time your Aunt checked in so she got that open slot. The computers don't work like that. Also, people buy Early bird which checks them in 36 hours prior to departure and that's how they get A.

I absolutely agree with your thoughts. This has happened to me EVERY SINGLE time I would not pay for upgrade.

Actually it’s based on when you buy your ticket. The people who buy first are higher on the list. The people who have status with the airline get the a group.
I have status and it always puts me in a. I can literally check the day of. Someone who has not status starts at b with southwest. They hold a for status people.
I know for sure because we can change our flight day of work not fee and even when I do change day if I always get a 30
Or lower. That means the c and d people were never given a chance to get a. Kinda suckie unless you have status. (Credit card or fly a lot with them)

Priority boarding, babes. You can get on ahead of everyone else, especially if you’re plus sized

Who purchased their ticket first? I believe that matters.

So if you want to know a huge travel trick that they don't tell you is when flying larger airlines book your ticket and on the day of travel call early in the morning and ask about the "A" class seat which is a cheaper first class seat which means if they over book first class they will move you back to regular class. Also the best hours to book are around midnight to about 5am the lines are not busy so you can get an agent. Another thing is always book your seat when you book if you can and then upgrade from there BUT IF YOU CAN GET A SEAT AT THE TIME OF BOOKING DO SO. your theory is incorrect if you don't have a seat when you book the ticket if you book a seat they are more willing to upgrade you to a discounted first class seat but if you don't have a seat assigned at the time of check in them those crappy seat are really the only seats left and because they over book most flights if you are willing to wait until the day of travel to upgrade you can get the discounted first class seat. Hopefully that makes sense. BOOK A SEAT AT THE TIME OF BOOKING THE TICKET IF POSSIBLE, BE FLEXIBLE, AND FINALLY CALL ON THE SAME DAY OF TRAVEL TO UPGRADE TO A DISCOUNTED FIRST CLASS SEAT.

Agents cannot give you a boarding card of their choice even if they wanted to. What probably happened that one time was someone's boarding card was deleted at the very time you checked in. It's all computer generated 🧛🏽‍♀️

Have Kids Families Get Boarded Before Everyone. Also If You Have A Disability Then You Also Get Boarded First. Unfortunately/Fortunately I Have Both

I don't get why getting in first is a big deal when you have assigned seats??? Lmao I would never pay the extra for that

Idk I almost always get B, and if not it’s because I picked my self a little window seat elsewhere from the provided map. I’m slightly confused because I thought they all had the interactive map to let you pick your seat. Sometimes it gets changed to a better seat ( I had some guy board me super close to the front so that I could get off quicker to make my connecting flight. I didn’t ask or know they could do that, he just did it when he realized I had another flight.) regardless, glad you got a good seat! 😁

Why do people even pay to board the plane earlier tho? I never got that. I can be at the gate and I’ll wait until the last person boards before i get in line lol i never felt like it makes a difference 😂

But why does it really matter when you get on the plane? Don't you have assigned seats?? 🤷🏼‍♀️
