Arguably fashion’s most iconic power duo, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana’s label sees vast swathes of recognisable floral dresses take to the runway every season. ⭕️ Who are Dolce & Gabbana? — Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana are a pair of extremely talented business partners and fashion designers.

⭕️ Stefano Gabbana was born on November 14th, 1962 in Milan. Before getting involved in the fashion industry, he studied graphics. Domenico Dolce was born near Palermo, Sicily in Polizzi, Generosa on September 13th, 1958. Dolce’s family owned a rather small clothing business so he was exposed to fashion from a young age working in the shop at an early age.

⭕️ The pair met at a fashion house that they both happened to be designers at in the late 70s. Although, their connection did not spark right away. Dolce resigned from this fashion house after a year and the two only got in touch again when Stefano was in need of a place to live and the two became roommates.

⭕️ From that moment on, the two cliqued. They realized how well their design styles meshed and they began to explore their collaborative potential. They began to create collaborative designs together and began to build the brand that today is known as Dolce & Gabbana.

⭕️ Influence — From the beginning, Dolce & Gabbana pulled influence from one particular group of strong, confident, stylistically blessed women - Sicilian women. Dolce, being from Sicily, had grown up with a large Sicilian influence and was not quite fond of this style. A Sicilian’s woma n staple at the time was of a strong woman donning pinstripes, chiffon, and a scarf.

⭕️ Gabbana convinced Dolce of how powerful and influential Sicilian style was and from that moment on they designed with the Sicilian woman in mind. You can see this strong, confident influence in every Dolce & Gabbana design to walk the runway.

⭕️ Dolce and Gabbana had a number of muses to base this influence off of. A few of these muses they speak of are Sophia Loren, Gina Lollobrigida, Madonna, and Monica Vitti. The Dolce and Gabbana woman resembles all the features and personalities of these muses. She contrasts beautiful, sensual undergarments with masculine pinstripes and bold ties paired always with high heels.

⭕️ Iconic — Dolce & Gabbana have iconically become synonymous with elaborate animal prints, pinstripes, detailed embroidery, black lace, florals and other Italian staples. They established their identity from extremely early on in their careers. They have a number of iconic designs that have shaped the Italian and global fashion industry forever…
