1983.
Anyone remember what was happening then?
AIDS was at it worst and we didn't have AZT yet. The theater world was losing its best and brightest.
This musical, and especially this number, had such added

Amazing that the year before George was touring in Sweeney Todd. Then he originated the polar opposite role in La Cage aux Folles. That’s range.

Before this production opened, a big deal was made over the fact that a few of the chorus members were cis-women. I saw the show from up close, and we had a ball trying to put them out.
The reveal wasn't until the curtain calls, which has the chorus enter in the elaborate costumes from the first number, which they stripped of to revel them in street clothes.

My favorite part is 2:20 (which I’m totally referencing so I can click later). That key change just does wonders for me.

For some reason I can imagine Tammie Brown doing this.

The 2 women are the second from left and the second from the right at the end.

Make up and costume maybe improve today but i can safely say that true vocals and artistry still from the old days.. I am glad that i ever had a chance to see this old vintage and classic performance of the past...

Drag in a pre-Gaga world... There was individuality.

Love the tap dancing but do they really tap dance in Saint-Tropez?

Today the drag queens are the most feminine ladies ♥

So they allowed the ensemble men to dress in drag but not George? That’s ridiculous!

God I wish I was born a man dressed as a woman

I love George Hearn, but wished he did this in drag.
