No mention of the rented old pieces (Zobrist, Cueto, Rios) or the death of Ventura? Yikes

I’m a Royals fan and can promise you it was worth selling our future to win it all. That World Series parade was one of the best feelings of my life.

There are A LOT of errors (we didn’t steamroll the American League with no resistance. We almost lost the ALDS and were down 5 runs in the 9th) and omissions (Yordano Ventura died, we’re a small market team) in this video.

We’re rebuilding. We’ll be back.

If Moose doesn’t tear his ACL, Gordon doesn’t hit the DL for nearly 6 weeks, and Wade Davis doesn’t miss nearly a third of the season then they most likely make the playoffs in ‘16

As a lifetime Royals fan born and raised in Kansas City, this was expected.

They sold the house in 2015 to get Zobrist and Cueto which brought us a World Series ring.

I’ll take 5 more 100 loss seasons because no one can take that Championship banner away from us.

"would you rather be good but not great for an extended period of time or win it all and be godawful"

you could ask the latter to the white sox

I mean the Royals are a small market, team they would rather have the ring and call it good than be good for 5 yrs and never make it past the alcs. If I was running a small market team, I would take the ring over extended run of excellence.

As a Royals fan this is what I saw

2016: We had the WS hangover to a degree. It didn't help that Volquez slipped and Chris Young fell apart. Two of our top starters last year regressing when starting pitching was our weak spot to begin with. Our bullpen also regressed as well.

On offense Gordon regressed, Escobar regressed and we lost Moose. So overall we regressed. For years the Royals beat the projections. We regressed in some areas and it kept us out of the the playoffs. But it wasn't like we tried. We did sign Soria and Kennedy.

2017: Last chance with our core. On pitching we traded Davis. We lost Ventura. So our already shaky starting staff got worse. Our bullpen, without Davis, regressed again.

On offense we were about the same overall. But I highly question the signing of Moss. A guy who can't run or field and for a DH never hit above .300 and only 22 home runs? They should have used the DH spot for Cheslor, or Orlando, or anyone else. They were trying to rebuild and contend at the same time, but did so poorly.

2018: The lose the core and now are rebuilding. As a small market team they just can't throw money at players. Key players they wanted to get at bats for were either hurt is suspended. They were Bonifacio, Soler, and Cheslor.

Their pitching made some strides with Junis, Keller, Fillmyer, Skoglund getting sufficient innings.

Overall, it doesn't help that their minor league teams are empty through drafting later, some injuries and trades.

The next couple years are key for the Royals. They are rebuilding. The market is different. Moore used to draft high school athletes in the later rounds and throw a ton of money at them to get them to sign as opposed to going to college. You can't do that. I like last year's draft the pitching. This year they got Witt Jr. in the 2nd pick. With the talent and the maturity from having a dad who played MLB for years there is a high chance of success there. And with drafting high next year they have to hit big. If most goes well they should be contending come 2020 and in the playoffs by 2021. With Keller, Mondesi, Nicky Lopez they have young players to build around.

The biggest problem for the royals is that they are a small market team. They arent going to be signing the top players year after year even if they have cap space. They pretty much have to rely on draft and small trades.

It's called not having enough money save yourself some time of watching this.

As a Royals fan it hurts so much to see how good the team was to how bad it is again

You’re missing A LOT of BIG details here. The Royals gutted their farm system to rent players like Zobrist and Cueto in 15. In 2017, they were within striking distance of the playoffs and were buyers again at the deadline. So, no, the franchise didn’t just lay down, they tried to make one last postseason run, it just didn’t work out. Throw in the fact that a small market team simply couldn’t afford to keep all those core pieces, and the unexpected death of Yordano Ventura, and you get a very different, but much more accurate story. Do your research next time.

As a Minnesota sports fan, I would be completely okay with any of my teams winning it all then being godawful.

About that question at the end. The question is basically, Would you rather be the Royals or Nationals.

They're a small market team that landed a WS win in their tight window. It really makes their achievements all the more impressive

Failed to mention how much they lost on the cueto trade

Going almost all in for the Championship plus bad player development. Ace getting killed didn't help things either.
