Gwen Confides in Miles | Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld)

Gwen (Hailee Steinfeld) tells Miles (Shameik Moore) he's been her only friend since Peter's death and reflects on past tragic relationships between Gwen Stacy's and Spider-Man across universes. Miles is hopeful for a different ending.

After reuniting with Gwen Stacy, Brooklyn's full-time, friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is catapulted across the Multiverse, where he encounters a team of Spider-People charged with protecting its very existence. However, when the heroes clash on how to handle a new threat, Miles finds himself pitted against the other Spiders. He must soon redefine what it means to be a hero so he can save the people he loves most.

It’s crazy how an animated film had the best cinematography of any other live action film that year. Maybe with the exception of Oppenheimer but that’s still high praise

In this scene, Gwen confessed her feelings for miles when she said “Gwen Stacy falls for Spider-Man” but also rejects romance because it doesn’t end well. Gwen offers friendship over romance because she truly loves miles and doesn’t want to lose him. Miles saying there is a first time for everything just gives her that little sense of hope that it can all workout. Throughout the whole movie Gwen calls miles a friend and doesn’t describe anyone else that because it’s her way of saying “ I have catch feelings for u, but can’t fall for u” and plus she feels more personally and emotionally connected to miles than the rest of the others in the spider society which is why she kept talking about him and couldn’t stop thinking about him when they were separated. I like how at the end miles taught Gwen it’s all possible that she can have a relationship with him because instead miles looking up to Gwen, we are now looking at Gwen looking up to miles.

All of their scenes felt so natural and their chemistry is insane. If beyond continues to do them right they have the potential to be one of the best couples I’ve ever seen in film

Their relationship teaches so many lessons and is so damn relatable. Starting as friends, realizing those feelings, the importance of trust and soon understanding/forgiveness. These two have to end up together to make it full circle. Gwen and Miles’ relationship isn’t just great for the movie but it’s a great representation of how relationships go.

This is how you do a natural romance in film. It makes it more exciting when you can feel that chemistry without the characters holding hands, kissing, saying I love You or being direct with their feelings to each other. You just watch them have a conversation and interact with each other and the audience can already see the mutual feeling they have for each other. You just want this two together.

Both Shameik Moore and Hailee Steinfeld do a pretty good job at Miles and Gwen. Beyond The Spiderverse will make this scene hit much harder than before.

What cool is Gwen has to move to Miles in order to lean on him because their upside-down so it a choice to be closer to him cause gravity wouldnt allow for her to do so unless rightside up
