It's been a while since I've touched grunge on this channel, and I really wanted to hear more Layne Staley and Alice In Chains. What better choice than what Jerry Cantrell called "the master piece of our record", and dives into the private relationship between Layne and his then girlfriend Demri. This song is HAUNTING!

Join professional opera singer Elizabeth Zharoff, as she listens to Alice In Chains performing "Love, Hate, Love" for the first time.

Healthy Layne shook the stadium with his voice. The power he possessed was incredible

"Bleed the freak" at this concert if you would like to see this man's complete range. The bridge part of the song is off the charts.

Layne used his voice like Hendrix used his guitar. Pure genius and otherworldly talent

30 years plus and people can still be wowed. Alice in Chains' music is truly timeless.

Alice In Chains is my test for people’s musical taste.

The thing I can't get over in this song is how coherent the whole band feels. The drumming is playing all of these staggering, syncopated beats and never feels off time, the guitar is working through all of these tri-tone scales, the bass is plowing through the foundation, and Lane is spilling his guts out in front. It never feels disjointed even as it is wallowing in dissonance. It's a tremendous accomplishment.

My wife, who has a lot of choral experience, has always said Layne was one of the few rock/metal vocalist who had perfect pitch. I believe her.

The way that Cantrell could capture Staley's emotions on guitar with his timing and odd chord voicings can't be lost under the pain of loss. There was a true symbiotic relationship there.

Layne is without question the best “grunge” singer in my opinion. And one of the best rock singers of all time.

People used to stand by the stage and say that layne didn't need the mic. They could feel the power of his voice vibrating off of his body. He had such power to his core

The day Layne Staley died, part of me died. His voice shook everyone's soul.

The power of Layne was always in his restraint. He could be whisper soft and pure tone one second and then screaming the next and go right back. He had so much control over his instrument. If you ever get the chance, check out his mom singing! She has a similar tone, and sings his songs every year on his birthday!

Mad Season’s Wake Up is powerful . Layne writes and sings about his herion addiction and ultimately his death. Mad Season was a great band featuring Layne

Layne is the only singer that can give me goosebumps every time I hear him and I’ve been a fan for 30+ years

PLEASE... PLEASE DO "BLEED THE FREAK" FROM THIS SAME SHOW!! "LIVE AT THE MOORE THEATER" Quite possibly the best demonstration of what he was capable of back in '93. Thank you so much for these!!!

Loved this reaction to one of my favourite songs. Fun Fact: my new therapist said to me about something unrelated, 'We're going to have to get you to work through these feelings' and I responded with 'Lady, I've still not recovered from the death of Layne Staley so you are going to have to manage those expectations.'

Laynes voice hits you in a part of your soul like no one else ever could. Truly haunting and beautiful at the same time. There will never be anyone like him. RIP brother.

His was the voice of torment and despair. You don't get a voice like that by going to Sunday School. Sadly these tortured geniuses are never around for long. RIP Layne. X
