Thanks for your support - What first car should you buy?

I used all the money collected so far to buy two new GoPro cameras, which will allow me to communicate with you more often. Additional, portable gear also facilitates filming during launch events. Last, but not least I want to do quick replies to your questions, feature new formats, etc.

My next goal is a road trip in my car to a place very much revered by petrolheads. The whole road trip will be filmed, and I will post updates, as I prepare, travel, and... You'll find out when it happens.

And today I'll try answering a question I get often: what should be your first car?

Can't agree totally here; Toyota Yaris are excellent cars to learn on, especially for young beginners. They are having a higher safety standard than average industry, and very easy to understand and get along with. Also, for crowded cities, like most of the metropolis nowadays, small class cars like the Yaris should be the first choice.
Compact should be the second option, and yes, maybe first, if your living in a more light traffic area.
Medium class cars are good, but not everybody can get along very easy with them in the beginning.

And yes, get a japanese, you will not regret the choice.

Any 5-10 year old b-segment car would do a great first car

My tip for the first car: instead of having a big engine that tempt to a dangerous driving buy a very good music system and you have a lot of fun driving slowly/normal but having cool/loud music!

I agree to all the points for buying the first car: normal used car, not too big or too small and I would add: a car where you have a good visibility through the side and rear windows and not with a fat c- pillar, so that you can easily check the traffic, that makes driving much more easy and funny, so maybe not a mazda 3 for example or some other 3 door cars.
(And always have very good tires, not old and hard ones, that helps so much stopping early enough if you have to brake unexpectedly what happens often when you have your first car.)

Since i took my license (almost 9 years ago), i had only one car: a 2000 Citroën Saxo mk2 1.0 50 hp.

It serves my needs, has economic fuel consumption (around 5-5.5 l/100).

It's slow, consumes some oil (2 liters in 6 months), but never let me on foot at the date of this comment.

The equipment: electric front windows, usb/cd radio and...that's all.
Few things to broke.

On the topic of insurance, it is absolutely critical. I got my license in the U.S. at 16 where driving is critical given that public transport is nonexistent and the distances too long to walk. I paid $189 per month for liability only on a truck worth $3000. Also, while I agree that you want to avoid too many nannies, I think ABS is an absolute essential, as it could have helped me avoid 2 accidents. Just my 2 cents... Oh and definitely buy a Japanese car as your first car, otherwise expect high repair bills (I have owned 1 Chevy, 1 Saab, 1 Toyota, 1 Honda, 2 Hyundais, 1 Citroen)

My first car was a VW new beetle of 2003, 1.9tdi 100cv. Loved it and I still do, a bit rough ride and uncomfortable seats for me, great mechanics but had some electrical gremlins, specially after a speedy pizza delivery guy(in a probably over 20 years old shoe box, no abs, fiat uno, yeah, this is poland...) hit me on the right side of the tail, I don't think that should be related to it though... I have just recently replaced it, after having it for almost 2 years, for a Honda insight of 2011, and I'm happy with it till now.

I am 21 I have 4 years of driving experience with the car of my mom (Seat Ibiza). Currently I am living in a smaller german town with some thin streets in the city. I was thinking about getting a Toyota Aygo but now I might reconsider my choice.

I think a volkswagen polo is a good option for your first car, it's cheap insurance, cheap to buy and easy to drive around in the city.

Was thinking between VW Polo or Honda Jazz. I wanted to consider the Suzuki Celerio because it's far cheaper, but I read bad reviews regarding it.

I got a Kia Sportage (new), because I got a REALLY good deal on it (connections). Now 12.000km later I think its the best car in the world. Parking/driving is no problem.

Hi Marek!

My first car was a (unreliable) Renault Megané Classic (sedan version), it got a weird problem, sometimes it would start right away, other times it would simply refuse to start, the starter would just keep going but the engine never started. Only fix was to push it to start or take the bus... It actually drove alright, the engine was okay for a 1.4 16v petrol, and plenty of space in the boot.

Now, after several years without a car :O I know!... I have ordered a VW Polo BlueGT with DSG. Have you tried it, and if yes, what do you think? If no, do you have a review planned?

Thanks for the great videos!

I don't know what car insurance is like in Poland, but in the UK it is so high if you are under 25, you could be looking at £1800 a year for a 1.2 litre engine making most first cars for young people small and old, or far to costly
