Find the product of a fraction and a mixed number by using area models
In this lesson you will learn how to find the product of a fraction and a mixed number by using area models.

STANDARDS
CCSS.5.NF.B.4.b Find the area of a rectangle with fractional side lengths by tiling it with unit squares of the appropriate unit fraction side lengths, and show that the area is the same as would be found by multiplying the side lengths. Multiply fractional side lengths to find areas of rectangles, and represent fraction products as rectangular areas.
TEKS.6.8.D determine solutions for problems involving the area of rectangles, parallelograms, trapezoids, and triangles and volume of right rectangular prisms where dimensions are positive rational numbers.
IN.5.M.2 Find the area of a rectangle with fractional side lengths by modeling with unit squares of the appropriate unit fraction side lengths, and show that the area is the same as would be found by multiplying the side lengths. Multiply fractional side lengths to find areas of rectangles, and represent fraction products as rectangular areas.
VA.CE.6.5.a multiply and divide fractions and mixed numbers;
VA.MG.6.7.c solve problems, including practical problems, involving area and perimeter of triangles and rectangles.
VA.MG.5.8.a solve practical problems that involve perimeter, area, and volume in standard units of measure; and
