The most important chord we have is the Triad, but there might be a few more triad types than you think, and they are incredibly useful for Jazz and Jazz Guitar!
Let me know if I forgot one!

My name is Jens Larsen, Danish Jazz Guitarist, and Educator. The videos on this channel will help you explore and enjoy Jazz. Some of it is how to play jazz guitar, but other videos are more on Music Theory like Jazz Chords or advice on how to practice and learn Jazz, on guitar or any other instrument.

The videos are mostly jazz guitar lessons, but also music theory, analysis of songs and videos on jazz guitars.

You make it fun to learn jazz! My fingers move a little slower now that I’m my late 60’s! I’m really enjoying your jazz class I purchased. Pure greatness!

Locrian triad is 1 4 b5
Phrygian triad is 1 b2 5

I know all the chords. But I’m strictly rhythm, I don’t want to make it cry or sing. 😎

Seriously, these are great vids. Thank you.

I'd say Phrygian triad 1 b2 5 but that's all I could think to add

Thanks Jens, there are a few new triads to me here. (Maybe the Csus#4 could be nick named the 'Simpson's' Triad ?). The Joe Henderson one sounds mean and mysterious ! If you want to get a Country sound, play a sus2 (inversion of sus4) triad and hammer on the Maj 3rd. Lerve that one.

Monk plays Bbsus#4 triad (aka lydian triad) in second inversion on intro to Rhythm a ning, check it out!

Frigian (1, b2, 5) locrian (1, b2, b5). It depends what do you qualify as a triad. If it is a collection of 3 notes with its unique intervalic functions relative to the root, than there are more. What about 1, 2, 4 for example? Would you consider that a triad?

Csus4b5 is like an inversion of what Rick calls a Phrygian triad I think 🤔

1 b2 2. I call it the ugly chord. Or the spider chord. It makes me think of spiders when you arpeggiate it
