The 5090 should come with two 12 pin power plugs, so it does not have to deliver 600 watts through just one connector.. I am betting it will be a dumpster fire, that connectors will once again have issues with them burning up.. but having 2-12 pin connectors would allow for each connector to take in 300 watts, which would make the cards and connectors much more safe.. and even if they have the PCIE power connector as well.. even better!! Let it also handle some of that huge wattage which the 5090 is going to be pushing, 600 watts, is crazy..

I have some more info. Confirmation that it is for the PCIe. That to me has a telling limiting factor what it is for. PCI lane direct to CPU linking to GPU can only be for ARC. I can't think anything else that would do this. AMD and Nvidia in my knowledge haven't taken this path for their architecture to pair to CPU. Nvidia has been talking about having their own CPU but that would require their own motherboard. X870 is for 9800X3D and 9950X3D in mind and these are scheduled for next year maybe. So why now just before Arrow Lake? I can only see to offer another platform for ARC. Maybe to stabilize the power between CPU/GPU to better pairing. Speculation. 24th October is not that far. Big surprise would be to launch Battlemage also.

It is also on X870 boards. PCI 5.0 direct to CPU/GPU?
