A review of how to approach peripheral edema, including the distinction between pitting vs. non-pitting, acute vs. chronic, and symmetric vs. asymmetric edema. I also discuss how the etiologies of edema can be categorized based on the Starling Equation.

I'm an intern at psychiatric hospital. A patient came with leg/ ankle /foot edema, I was so confused last Friday. The patient obviously is having chronic edema . But cuz of the psychiatric complains I'm finding some issues to take a full medical history from the patient.
