A review of how to approach peripheral edema, including the distinction between pitting vs. non-pitting, acute vs. chronic, and symmetric vs. asymmetric edema. I also discuss how the etiologies of edema can be categorized based on the Starling Equation.

Another great video - thanks again. It was great after seeing a pregnant pt in the ED with possible DVT during the week to use this as a revision tool to make sure I didn't miss anything! These are super handy videos as a final year medical student in Australia.

Dear Dr. Eric, thank you very much from Cambodia for sharing your great lectures. I highly appreciate your approach to any topic/problem from understanding its physiology and pathophysiology.

Great video! Maybe it would be possible to include malabsorption/protein-losing enteropathies among the etiologies of hypoalbuminemia, and severe burns as a cause of increased capillary permeability?

Thank you for this great summary.
I'm an intern at psychiatric hospital. A patient came with leg/ ankle /foot edema, I was so confused last Friday. The patient obviously is having chronic edema . But cuz of the psychiatric complains I'm finding some issues to take a full medical history from the patient.

I'm trying to understand how the endothelial glycocalyx plays a role in fluid shifts and therapies. Can you explain how this changes the Starling law and treatment strategies? Thanks!
