The Badami caves are located around 400 km north west of Bangalore ,in Bagalkot dist.

The temple structures are carved out of sandstone in the cliff. These are part of the Temple architecture development cycle of the Chalukyas from 7 th to 9 th century . The Aihole and Patadikal temple structures nearby are part of the developmental design work .

A decent step climbing is necessary to access the 4 caves , and preferably in the early morning or evening hours . Late mornings to afternoons will be tiring to climb .

There are no dieties inside the cabes but very nicely preserved carvings can be enjoyed here .

A short walk around the Agasthya lake takes us to the Bhootanatha temple .
