4:44 Wow and here I was thinking “Mercedes Carota” was one of the best songs off an album where BB is essentially returning to his more hip hop grimy origins. I mean the man’s roots is hip hop inspired trap music.

I think his intention with this album was a kind of return to his roots, as he stated this album was for his core og fandom, so i for sure agree that this album doesn’t really go out there in terms of innovating on the genre but instead takes a step back to the trap roots he was released from after gaining mainstream prominence

He said it wasnt an album for the charts, its an album returning to his trap roots, and having features such as yovngchimi, luar la l, and eladio gave fans of bad bunny and the latin scene something we have been waiting for for a while. His return to trap where he started from in 2016 and giving a shine to the puerto rican trap scene which is only gonna continue blowing up. By no means a 10/10 album but pretty huge in terms for exposure of latin trap to the english speakers who only lnow of bad bunny and little more

LET'S ARGUE! I have a tremendous amount of respect for Anthony Fantano. He is a role model for me as I develop a channel of my own. It must be very hard to review so many albums as quickly as he does in order to put up the reviews soon enough after the albums are released such that people will read them right away. The problem is that some albums are simply too large and ambitious to be able to listen to and process within a few days.

I admittedly did not like this album much at first. I thought that Monaco was a bit overrated, and I was keen about the first few songs. Yet I kept listening to it and I'm glad I did, because some of the songs in the second half are some of the best songs I've heard not only from Bad Bunny, but from anyone in recent memory. Interestingly enough, AF doesn't mention any of them in his review.

#1 is VUELVE CANDY B. This song has an incredible beat which reminds of the music of A Clockwork Orange. I can see BB incorporating the slow zoom shot with Malcolm McDowell in the milk bar as inspiration within the video for this track if he ever makes one. The beat is incredible, the bass is thunderous and the production is just overall fantastic, and so the fact that AF never mentions this song once makes me realize why he didn't llike the album. He was probably turned off by the songs he didn't like before the good ones and checked out mentally for the rest of the album, especially since all of my favorites come right after the one he likes the least : Mercedes Carota.

Los Pits, Vuelve Candy B, Baticano (which he did say that he liked), No Me Quiero Casar, Where She Goes, Perro Negro and Acho PR are all strong tracks that I really enjoy and he didn't mention a single one of them. VOU 787 is another winner as well. Most of the tracks that I like here took me a few listens before I got into them, but now I'm hooked and I'm not sure which album is better between this one and Un Verano Sin Ti.

I hope that Anthony gives this album another chance, because with each of the tracks that I mentioned, Bad Bunny takes a different style and does it in a unique way, but also does it really well. If the songs that I listed above where the first songs on the album, I think this album would have received a more positive initial response, but I think the risk taking zone in the tail end is so successful, that if people are willing to do a little heavy lifting and give those songs a chance, they'll realize the genius that goes into the beatmaking and the production here, and they'll give this album the credit that it deserves.

For me its a Strong 9, because I'm willing to focus more on what I like here (which is more than half of the album) and just skip by the rest. Happy listening and tell me what you think! - S.
