My motorcycle was stolen from my condo parking spot the other night here in Toronto.
Police and my building security aren’t helpful at all investigating this. Police told me they will only investigate only if there is camera footage provided by security, and security is telling me they don’t see anything on the camera’s despite being dozens of cameras in the parking garage. The said they’re not allowed to go through the camera footage with me.
I had a disc lock and scorpio alarm on it, so it was most likely it was probably lifted and thrown in to a truck or van. It was a Honda CBR1000RR so I doubt it will ever be recovered.
So I called my insurance and was told an agent will call me back in the next couple days to start my claim.
I’ve never made a claim in my 18 years of driving a motor vehicle. I bought the bike off a desperate seller so I paid $5000(Canadian) and told the insurance company upon first insuring the bike that It was valued at 5k. But in reality as of right now they go from 7k-10, 000 dollars for same year and mileage.
What should I expect to be reimbursed?
Any advice on dealing with this agent?
My next question is will my rates go up whenever this is settled and have a replacement bike?
What could I do to prevent theft from happening again? Like I said earlier I did have a disc lock and audible alarm already. Parking at another location isn’t an option for me.
It sucks being a motorcycle owner living in a condominium!
