In this video I wanted to share my thoughts on some of the emotional and financial costs that were associated with my ROLEX Submariner purchase, after a month of ownership. Hopefully, I'm not the only one with some of these feelings when buying a modern Rolex.

124060 is at 10, 800 plus tax, 12, 200 all in, I went grey and paid just under 15, 000 to skip the line and ignore the AD hustle but this piece has been on my hit list for years

I'm 72, so will probably be taking the dirt nap if and when the Rolex AD in my market area calls me. Personally I have very little respect for Rolex AD's and absolutely none for the grey market pirates.

Somebody that’s is going to steal your Rolex won’t care a bit if you are a fairly large gentleman, be careful and aware of your surroundings always.

Congrats on the Sub! It truly is one of the most iconic watches. But you also make some other very important points. And that is no one should ever go into debt to make such a purchase! Many of us have other financial responsibilities; and it is important that we all make wise decisions. I would say to anyone before buying a sure you reconcile your thoughts before pulling the trigger. Sometimes, human nature being what it is, we think we want something simply because it is so difficult to obtain. But, the truth is, there are many other luxury watch brands that are more affordable, comparable in quality, and readily available! I love the physical watches (Rolex). But the brand image now days could be a lot better.

I’m torn on the Sub. I like it for the overall design and because of my love for 1962’s Dr. No with Sean Connery, who wears the Sub in the movie, but the wait times are brutal. Then again, I fear that if I get a Black Bay or Pelagos instead, I will still want the Sub for those reasons mentioned.

Congrats on the new sub brother 👏 I’m still on the list for a new Rolex sub. However I ended up picking up a preceramic sub. Therefore I’m canceling the new one as I’m tired of playing the waiting game and for me the preceramic wears better on my wrist.

Waited 3 months with no purchase history for my 124060 in 2022. I love it, but you really need to be careful when you wear it out.

Thankfully in my country, 2 year AD waits aren’t a thing, at least at mine (they’ll also only sell to locals). The 124060 makes for a perfect 3 diver collection, along with the FXD and the Seamaster 2254.50 - well for me at least 😊

Coming in strong with that introduction sequence...solid editing!

One thing I will say on the point of being vigilant while wearing a watch, I think a lot of the attention is drawn by the bracelets, as it’s more shiny material that catches the eye. I think throwing it on a strap of some kind reduces that attention grabbiness quite a bit.

The only comment I will make with a Rolex is, they do tend to appreciate in value over time. I have a 1982 Submariner given to me on graduating University. It was purchased in Hong Kong for I believe $1, 200 Cdn $ in 1983. As some may consider it vintage now and is a transitional model, from what I can tell, it would likely retail for $25, 000 plus. Pretty good return on initial investment. Excellent condition as I don't wear it as much as I should, due to its worth. With luxury items also, comes the high price of servicing them, which is crazy, something else to keep in mind. All comes down to how much enjoyment you will receive in owning it. A Seiko likely keeps better time, Lol.

Perhaps an unpopular opinion but I really do feel the sub is over priced even at retail much less Grey market. Perhaps in the 90’s when it was a little cheaper and it had less competition but today there are so many alternatives for cheaper.

Buyers remorse can be a huge problem for me today. It wasn't really a problem years ago but today with so many micro brands and homage watches that are almost identical in looks and quality to the real thing, I have a big problem now spending thousands on a watch. All I can think of when I buy one is how many other watches I could have bought for the price of this one watch. Ultimately I get over it though and love and enjoy the watch.

I have had a 168000 since 88 walked in and bought it for 20% off and walked out with it . Non of this wait and hope for one . My service center was willing to sell me the new left handed gmt on the spot . Need to look around For a quality AD. Just my thoughts.

That GS SBGX117 is really sharp! I wasn‘t aware of it, really nice look and size, and with a 9F movement.

I think it's a good point and very few youtubers touch on this... Not only do you have to spend say £5000 to get yourself up the "wait list", then you drop a big amount on the sub - and if you've been waiting 2 years, the price may have gone up, plus in future you'll end up servicing it. And right now, many people are saying the 3230 movement is inherently flawed, with some saying every one of them is destined to lose time after 10 months on wrist and some folks saying that their 2020 OP's have been for servicing TWICE - that's almost once per year since release! Rolex isn't a cheap game to get into. I've got an OP and my partner does too, but if it becomes unreliable, I think I'll be looking towards a micro-brand that can be serviced for very affordable prices. Cheers, and enjoy your sub!

I have recently been told by a Rolex AD that the wait time is 5 years for a ss sports watch, I entered the same store in january89 and purchased a Rolex explorer 1016, no wait time, still wearing today, the good old days

I got a few rolex reps. Reason being, would rather pay 500 for a high tier and regret than to get a genuine model for 10grand and then regret. The financial cost for the latter simply doesn't make sense to me. I know its a matter of time before i get bored of a new item.
