Since the Olympics have been on I have been reading many books by men and women escaping NK, and now this book. Amazing stories: In Order to Live, The Girl with Seven Names, The Acquariums of Pyong Yang and more

The news papers there sound very much like those in the West, controlled by one group and mostly propaganda. That said, I would very much love to travel to North Korea myself. Having traveled extensively and soon to be cycling completely around the world, I wonder what my chances are of getting the Supreme Leader to grant me a visa and allow me to cycle through.

I find the tone of her book simply rude. Smacks of privilege. You go to a country where there are people living in gulags and being killed for simply disagreeing with the leadership and you think it's okay to mock them? The people are suffering and have so little bit you think it's okay to call their food disgusting and say their things are ugly? Ugh! Kinda person are you? The guy who speaks Spanish has an ugly accent because it's never occurred to you that he's never met or seen anyone Spanish or heard the accent? You're not funny you're rude and I'm glad I didn't pay for your book in order to read it.

Thanks and I will buy the book.
My plan is to visit in 2018 - but not as a solo traveller like Wendy but in a small group - hopefully 10-12 people.
Previously I'd listened to Wendy on the S.A.N.K podcast
I really get the feeling that in this interview here Wendy has tended to make a few exaggerations - but I suppose it is for effect and it suits her story.
Anyway - it's helping to get me prepared (unless there's WW3 in the meantime with two idiot leaders i.e. young Kim and the Don)
