A MESSAGE FROM MASTERBUILT.
Thanks for contacting us. We’re received quite a few inquiries on this topic and wanted to provide as much information as possible on the metal plates and firebricks.

Metal Plates
The metal plates in the lower portion of the hopper hold the firebrick in place and protect it during shipping. These burn out and drop into the ash pan. They are not necessary for the grill to function and we’re not offering a replacement part, since they are meant to be temporary.

Firebrick
In the Gravity Series Hopper, your fire is contained to a 6” – 12” area that is reinforced with a food-safe soft ceramic firebrick to handle the higher temps in the lower portion of the hopper. The ingredients in the food-safe ceramic are FDA allowed for use in food or as an indirect additive used in food contact.

The firebrick takes the heat from the charcoal fire and is to be replaced only once a hole burns in it that is more than 0.5” deep and 5” in diameter. These firebricks will be a warrantied part and will also available for purchase post-warranty at a retail of $29.99 for the full set (4 firebricks with temporary metal plates). In our testing, we’ve seen firebricks last multiple years. You do get some initial firebrick degradation during burn-in and initial usage, but then degradation tends to stabilize.

I purchased the 1050 a few days ago, did a burnin and one cook. I wished I would have watched this prior to assembly. Anyway, I just purchased the 1050 pit master package through the link you have here. Wish me luck on the install! Thanks again for sharing sir.

I think he listened to you over at LSS because he gave me more gasket which was perfect. Also anyone reading this, make sure to order and add the mod while you are building the masterbuilt. The mod for the firebox slide right in. No hammering or anything. Probably because the sides on the firebox had lub so it just slide right in. I know I know that doesn't sound right hahaha!

Anyways it worked perfectly. I would say to put it in after you flip it back on it's legs. When you first get the grill you have to flip it over to add legs and such. Wait till you flip it back up right then add the firebox mod. I say this because I think it will move and not sure it will move back all snug. Like it might move back down, but maybe not as snug at the bottom. Might leave a gap.

Would a spray on ceramic coating work as well or better? They ceramic can take heat up to 2000f & it would be a barrier between the hot coals & the firefox.

Thanks for the tip and taking time to produce the vid, Tommy. I have the 3 piece kit coming from Luke tomorrow. I should be able to take out for a break-in cook this weekend! BTW, my first brisket on the 1050 was best ever using your technique.

Good info. Just placed order for Mods and I noticed that they added a plate for the top lid that some have been using aluminum foil to help. The stainless has to be a great option. So now that I have 4 modes being shipped to me, it is now time to order the 1050 bbq unit. Yes, I did this backwards but will add mods to the original assembly and know It is setup to go. I hope that MB does a pro model upgrade soon. These items are a must have for all the videos I have seen with how fast the original firebox stuff is not holding up.

I did this mod on my brand new out of the box 560.
No reason to remove the switch. Just the wires. It is a simple but awesome mod though.

Just received the 3 piece kit. Quick would use heated treated paint, to paint the lower section of the fire box. Mine was starting to show rust with in the month.

Hello, I'm interested in getting this masterbuilt and have watched lots of your videos and others. But noticed that the back panel is open for the smoke to exit. Is there a cover or anything like that? Some of my smokes go overnight and in the rain and dont want water in there.

I really want one of these, but if you have to do all of this extra on an 800 dollar grill it makes me wonder if it's worth it.

What type of charcoal are folks using are you finding this to be an issue with one type more than another?
