China played it smart. While U.S. corporations thought they could exploit cheap Chinese labor for quick profits, China was reinvesting those small gains into its own economy and building up its own industries. Meanwhile, American companies have spent decades avoiding investment in their own workforce just to boost short-term profits. Now, with rising labor and living costs, they still refuse to pay fair wages—choosing instead to chase automation with AI and robots. I’m an American, and none of this matters if people can’t afford a living wage. Without that, who’s going to buy the products and services these companies sell?

the chinese importers will not be bearing the tariff bc their margins are already very small and bearing the tariff will mean they are giving the goods free to the exporter, which the Chinese exporters won't do. they will rather sell to other countries. in addition, the Chinese govt does not allow their local companies to bear trump's tariffs.

In an ideal world, every country would have a balanced budget but unfortunately this is hard to do for most countries unless they are energy and food independent. Continuous deficits are not sustainable, a country with continuous deficits will eventually go broke

A couple of points that don’t seem to have been made. 1) what does he want China to do even if they wanted to negotiate? 2) trump is an extortionist, why would China negotiate? And 3) what makes anyone think the Chinese government cares about the blight of Chinese small business?

The world should deliver a sober wake-up call to trump and his MAGA. Let them feel and reel in pain. Even then, I am not sure many would recognize what the reality is. That's how crazy they are.
