Toyota Rav4 No Start No Shift - Emergency Repair and Long-Term Fix - Shifter Cable Bushing

A very frequent problem with many Toyota vehicles including Corolla, Camry, Highlander, Sienna, and RAV4, is the transmission shifter cable coming loose from the shift lever. When this happens the transmission becomes stuck in one gear, and the engine cannot be started (no shift, no crank). The fix is replacing the bushing at the end of the shifter cable. For an emergency road-side repair is to remove the shifter cover and surrounding trim and access the shifter cable directly.
