The Soviets were supplying the North with weapons and aid through China. However, they found out that the Chinese were actually keeping their weapons for themselves and giving the Vietnamese their cheap Chinese knock offs. So the Soviets started supplying the North from the sea. It was a slow journey and sometimes they were targeted by American planes.

Advising against in this context doesn’t mean they disliked the US getting involved they just thought it wasn’t worth it taking about france. The main reason was because the North was a ally of the USSR and the US wanted to weaken them but never wanted to risk attacking them directly mainly because they had nukes and we worried about retaliation. It was ultimately a failure as the VC used Jungle warfare very effectively

Afghanistan is very different from Vietnam. Soviet forces were invited into the country by the official government to suppress radical Islamists which soviet union themselves have a lot of problems with 1917-1932. Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan in 1929 basically for the same reason as 1980's, to secure its borders from radical islam. I don't think Vietnam threatened American borders in any way, shape or form. And American invaded Vietnam just before the elections where people of both north and South were supposed to choose under which rule they wanted to live and reunify.

Nah, the British didn't help for that reason. The British asked for American help to suppress Communist Malasians during the Malasia Emergency and the US denied it, so as a "punishment" the British decided not to get involved in the Vietnam war

Vietnamese communists have wanted to establish a good relationship with the United States since 1945 when Truman was president. but in return there is only indifference and counterattack by the US government. Perhaps if America chose North Vietnam instead of supporting the traitors of South Vietnam, America would probably also enjoy the glory and gloating of victory instead of the humiliation of losing.

Why is there no mention of Australia sending troops to Vietnam? Mostly on behalf of the British, who Australia was still a Colonial member of the British Empire at the time.
