This is a recording of the talk I gave at Ruby Tuesday (Ottawa's Ruby meetup) on August 26 2014. I explain what an API is, what conventions to use when designing and building an API and I build an example API. The end result is a RESTful JSON API.

This is one of the best tutorials I have seen hands down.  Very logical approach for someone who is trying to grasp these concepts.

Thanks for this! It is very consistent!
Question for you... Is is recommended to have a RESTful webservice inside a web application or do you think it is best if the webservice is an entirely different application ?

Superb tutorial. Best one on API's. Also love the fact that it's Rails based as I am just learning that framework. You make it look so easy ;)

The only downside is that you do not share the UI code as well (at least not that can I can see). Any reason for that ?

excellent presentation, but I think you mean jsonapi.org without the hyphen.
