Imagine what those places look like now. Considering that one of the pictures is 290 million light years away.

Well, it wasn't so much a beginning, as it was a temporal shift, a changing of states.
Much like H20 changes states from solid, liquid, to gas, the universe changed its state, from its previous state, which unfortunately we do not know what that was, yet. We may never know, but we will never stop looking, not as long as there's an ounce of curiosity in a human being.
