Bare&Basic ZVS Circuits of all shapes and sizes.

This is a video how how to make many forms of ZVS ( Zero Voltage Switching ) with many common components. This is not a direct tutorial but a guide to real life design and troubleshooting.
Some things I stated a little strange a few thing stated wrong, some mistakes are present. It's almost like I am human too.

This is a LONG video and had a lot of verbal and observational information in it, but if you struggle to make your own ZVS I do very much hope this video helps you.

There will be many circuits made in this video for both step up and step down transformers as well as different wattage set ups as well.

Another thing to note is that I say transformers with a single primary coil are for full bridge configurations, while yes that is the way you run a transformer like that there are many other set ups that use a single wire primary transformers such as single mosfet switch mode PSUs and pulse transformers.

Video Timeline.
0-2min intro
2-21 min ZVS basic wiring and LED circuit testing and full load test.
21-30min Fighting with the common horrible TV flyback
30-46min About to show you more, but instead is the smallest ZVS
45-60min Rewinding a large CCFL transformer for ZVS
1h-1h3m poorly explaining transformer primaries + secondary fail
1h3m-1h10m Powering up the large CCFL transformer!
1h9m-1h17m Let's make a high wattage step down transformer
1h17m-1h27 A bigger step down transformer and fire at JTTs!
1h26m-1h-37m Let's swap inductors + upcoming DIY idea!
1h37m-1h40m Thermally killing SMT mosfets
1h40m-2h8m Small SMT board ZVS and the Static Spayer
2h8m-2h11m The hunch that wouldn't hunt
2h11m-2h19m Easy tuning set up+balancing Resonant capacitor.
2h19m-2h27m Tuning set up+more inductor test+spike failure
2h27m-2h33m How to test for bad mosfets effectively.
2h33m-2h39m Changing resistor values and what it effects.
2h39m-end Where are these parts, what do they do and look like?

You had me at SMT ZVS..I laughed so hard at the device's testicular fortitude! Thank you sir. You demonstrate remarkable knowledge in a well spoken and accessible way, I appreciate that you take the time to share this with us - well done!

As you probebly knew, I have been working on making my very own plasma pen; and this was a huge help, thank you

Man I'm sure glad I found your channel, you are a great instructor. As a 60 year old mechanic I find myself lost on the ECM's in my Dodge trucks, which the 1991 is about to be modified back to a carburetor and a points distributor like the earlier models.

With the knowledge I've learned in this one video, I will postpone the swap until I see if I can find the problem with the brain. Thank you brother for your patience and willingness to help others, it's very much appreciated. Subbed.

A friend gave me some random stuff a while back and in it was one of those little high frequency transformers. It had a center tapped bifilar primary so when I saw it had a decent arc from feeding half of the primary a square wave I tried just wiring it up as a blocking oscillator and it gave me an amazing arc from something around 5 watts. It was surprising similar input and output compared to what I got using the frequency and on time I ended up liking the most from the square wave generator so it must have been a fairly low duty cycle still able to output the burning plasma. The arc was way longer than it should have been, something close to an inch and I was going to make a battery arc lighter from it but tried 'potting' it with gorilla wood glue and it ruined the secondary. Similar transformers I pulled from LCD monitors wouldn't perform the same. Been trying to get into flybacks again recently and I always think of that little transformer.. tape was gone too along with the part number. I'll def be absorbing what I can from this video over the next week or so I've just been slacking on scrounging for some 12v zeners.

There is something hypnotic about watching the mosfet whisperer! Seriously, great video!

Hi, I saw you in join the technicians a few years ago. Glad I stumbled onto your channel. I have a love hate relationship with these zvs drivers lol.

Thanks man I finally was able to make a zvs driver that doesn't blow up! Much THANKS!

At 51 minutes you say "they're gonna be going in opposite ways" but they look like they're a constant direction of rotation, with the centre tap being just being an interruption, in a continuously spiral helix. Am I misinterpreting what you say, or am I misinterpreting what I am looking at? Thanks. This is the best video I have found on explaining the working of a ZVS. The smoke tests really do help clarify things. Great job.

Tank you buddy! I got my first zvs thanks to you. I improved the circuit a bit so i could use it as a induction heater. Im a big sub!

I ordered a Transformer simular to the one you used in the plasma pen video, it just was about 16 times smaller but looked identical!

@ about 5:30 - Should you have said "Negative at source PULLS DOWN the other fet and turns it off"? I'm completely thrown off by you saying a negative current flows against the cathode of a diode. I'm super new to this hobby so I may be missing something obvious but I don't get the negative current flowing reverse bias THROUGH a diode. Maybe electrons flowing through that way? Or most likely just could have misunderstood.

Can you do a deep dive into the plasma candle circuit ? I can’t find anything close to adequate regarding this topic .? Fantastic work on this one by the way 🙏

Cheers mate, as raw as this video is, it's quite educational. Also, glad I'm not the only that struggles with solder joins. Heh. I hate watching these guys that tap their soldering iron on the joints once and get instant joins..
