Growing up being the "bastard" of the family is no fun, and i say this as one. My mom got pregnant when she was 21, 2-3 years older than my two olders brothers (so basically my mom and brothers has same age), and my father was married to the mother of my brothers. My brothers where 17-18yo when that happened, i grew up as the black sheep of the family except for my parents. You can imagine how my brothers and family in general felt about me as a kid specially. This type of betrayal and messing up with the whole family and generational structure just breaks the family apart forever. And it shapes kids personalities/believes/values in the wrong way as they grow up.
