The Karambit is not designed as a stabbing weapon. It's for slashing, fast cuts, and control of joints and pressure points. It's a soft tissue instrument. If it was meant for stabbing, it would have a strate blade. But I've had training. But like with any weapon system, if you don't know what you're doing, you're going to get hurt. Knowledge is power and get the proper training in accordance with what you are using.

The difference is being trained to use the karambit specifically. It's meant to be used almost as a grappling tool where you can get in close and wrap the weapon around joints to do pull cuts as you grapple. This also means that the karambit is more restricted in its intended use, meaning that a standard knife is much more useful and easier to learn to use safely.

Not only know targeting, but anatomy, knowing where to hit, but how to hit. Quick strikes, and slashes.

I do agree but that mainly happens in the reverse grip. Which is used for controlling and grappling mainly joints which is NO WHERE near easy. If you used it normally it would work more like a regular knife. Regardless, no one should use lethal tools they've not practiced with.

@TimHartman I agree with you. That is one reason. If I can respectfully add, I discourage students from using the saber grip. As powerful as it is, those with traditional MA background like karate and Kung Fu train by beginning with hands at the low ready/ chamber position. It would be way too easy for someone to unintentionally disembowel themselves with the saber grip or karambit.

*_Spyderco used to make a polished stainless karambit•eśque looking folding lockback without the finger ring called the Spyderco Harpy that I personally thought was the best design out there! There wasn’t the risk of getting your finger ripped off by that finger ring!_*

*_I wish I could find that stainless polished version again! I don’t think Spyderco even makes them anymore, unfortunately! They do still make the harpy! But now it’s only with the plastic nylon handles in neon yellow or orange! And I’ve only seen versions of that with serrated, saw teeth edges too! My original stainless polished versions could be had with normal straight edges! That’s why I’m always keeping an eye out for the old school versions!_*

First time i ever bought one i tryed to flip it and it stuck right in my arm. I know better now. But if your not experienced with one .... yea it definitely can be dangerous to the user. But if your experienced and are well practiced with one and know its strengths and weaknesses its a amazing weapon.

Been living of a bicycle for 2, 918 days. I use a straight fixed blade hunting knife. I can throw it, and work with it in both NY hands, like an axe, it is an extension of my body. I would not want a curve blade. Perhaps for throwing at rabbits, but nothing deer or bigger. Know your/you're love

You're not supposed to stick it in and hold it in.That's not the way it is used so if used properly. You don't have this problem realistically the only problem using one is training.

You don't stab with a karambit you slice, and if it's sharp that blade is not getting caught on anything but bone for a second.

With a krambit, but you’re supposed to stab in and slash away, not stabbing and pull it out but anyways I do agree there are way better self defense options

It's a weaponized fisherman's knife, it was meant to let you use your hands without dropping your knife.

Wall it's a slashing weapon for one not a stabbing weapon.

I'm not a fan of the karambit for one reason. You can't stab with it. It was made for slashing a slow death, not instant quick kills.

It's a specialty weapon. Unless you're trained you want as basic a weapon as you can get

It has a nice point but I don't think it's a stabbing weapon.
