Maybe take 3-4 politics from the very beginning and then pretty much maximize training to have easy access to 1 star and more ability to sustain 2 stars. Use the melee strats and builds, only have a couple of shooty units for when you want to trade in shooting in defence. Otherwise use the default melee precussion muskets for large brigades and attack in melee with 100% condition or close. Turn off shooting and issule run order and then charge to close quickly. Use the general speed perk (live in the saddle +25% speed). Pretty much ignore the economy skill because you are going to use most of your units as melee attackers with muskets and only a few units as 1v1 shooting for which you are going to use the captures, the government help and some rare cases of expensive shop weapons.

12 pdr howitzers are extremely available in this campaign and when paired with a horse cavalry perk will be easy to use as mobile shotgun artillery which further helps mow down those large brigades in melee. I think that 12 pdr howitzers are pretty much equal to napoleons but with 10-15% range less.

And maybe legendary is a bit too much so maybe just maybe dont play it :D Its not authentic when the Union units can be more experienced on average.

3rd Grenzer hit exhausted just when it hit the water. There are major speed penalties for exhaustion that the skirmisher speed perk will not make up for. Had it been fresh you probably would have been fine, though having to cross difficult terrain to escape a charge is never a good situation.
- For me, legendary is the most fun its been in forever. Perhaps that is not the best standard to use though.
- My central comment on the first phase is that you're letting the AI fight you with even unit numbers of units. A ton of your units are standing around unengaged, while two to three fight an equal number of AI units. You really want to be adjusting your lines so that any time one of those big AI units comes forward it's getting hit by 5-6 units at once. That may involve pulling back briefly and then pushing forward again. Halfway through you have infantry units that haven't engaged at all.
- Getting some of the skirmishers on your left up on their right after the reinforcements come in would help push them left faster.
- I think the Peabody rout was actually kind of beneficial if taken advantage of. Let him run back there, setup a holding unit or two, and leave him there. That's 3.5k men no longer between you and the landing.
- I think it's a fundamental mistake to focus on trying to destroy the Union in this battle on Legendary. The goal is to damage and bypass them. If they setup in the woods around the Shiloh VP, great! Shift around to the right and get between them and where the landing will be. Leave enough blocking units while everything else goes to the landing. In some ways this is the one of the best battles currently because the solution is not to just win through annihilation.

Union players have complained that the gunboats aren't doing enough anymore :)
- It is frustrating that they are nearly impossible to spot. Otherwise killing them and moving on would be the easy thing. Though it's fairly realistic that there just wasn't anything the CSA could do about the gunboats.
- When I last played this I just used the AI units as a giant wall and ignored the gunboat fire.
- The Jenkins situation was partially an issue with how cav works. The sprite arrangement was not favorable to you(lots of his got in contact compared to very few of yours) but Jenkins also didn't get a volley off before getting into melee which would have changed things a lot.
- Stuart looks like he's benefiting from at least 2-3 speed perks.
- One thing to note, with the buffs to weapon recovery and allied CSA units at Bull Run, you could probably get to a much better point with a campaign restart. Not sure if that's a step you want to take at the moment though.
