Minelab Equinox 800 - Testing settings

I have an Equinox 800. I just did a similar comparison but only in gold mode 2 with coins from the 70s, .08 grams copper wire, .99 and .06 grams lead, tiny pieces of foil, and other very small pieces of metal. I also switched my coils between the 6 and the 11 inch coil. I place two 2 inch concrete bricks between the coil and the targets. For the very small targets I obviously couldn’t use the bricks. My intent is for hobby prospecting. Setting up a test bench test like you did gave me so much more confidence and understanding of action vs reaction from the detector. My conclusion for the hot soils in Colorado is GM2 in 40 kHz. Multi does detect ever so slightly deeper on minus one gram lead. The benefit from using only 40 KHz is the extreme difference in noise. Multi frequency is non stop constant chatter. Visual ids from negatives to 20s and 30s, Even with ground balancing and noise cancellation. The only solution was lowering the sensitivity. From 25 down to 20 was a significant loss in depth. 40 kHz at max sensitivity without ground balancing and noise cancellation was still much more stable and so much more peaceful. With 40 khz and not all that damn noise I could clearly hear the threshold break without a visual target id on multiple test. I can hear the threshold break in multi but only because I know when I’m passing the target by the coil and I can wave the target to pronounce the threshold but I believe in an actual environment to be overwhelming and not effective. Again the single frequency benefit only seems to work best with the lead because my test using the coins in single frequency has a loss of 20% average detection depth with both size coils. I hope you do more videos because it seems like the two best videos I’ve seen on YouTube explaining the frequencies are the least viewed when some high view stuff is just trash. Thanks.

Great video. It really helps me wrap my head around the whole thing. I would love to see these charts after you get a chance to tweak the settings.

I found this very interesting looking at the difference in depth on recovery speeds. Thank you for sharing, I am learning the nox 800

Another great video!! thanks for the time and effort you put in to doing this.
I as I’m sure lots of others greatly appreciated your time and help.
Cheers from your Aussie Viewers

Excellent points. I normally hunt trashy parks either in all metal or discriminate iron and foil with sensitivity cranked up. I want to do relatively the same when equinox arrives and tweak it so i get best depth. Keep the videos coming.

Fantastic Info Bill. Thanks for giving us something ponder on while we wait

Thanks Bill...you are the one I watch when I want to find out which setting to use on my detectors....I would love it if you would appear on your videos as well...that way I could put a face to your detecting videos...GL and HH

Very interesting charts. Last time I went to my Civil War campsite, I tried Gold 2 since the site is not very trashy. I did very well on mid conductors...3 ringers and buttons.

After several months using the detector in the field I can conclude that this air test is its actual behavior in the soil. If I find the marginal target in some mode I would switch to other modes to compare the signals. Equinox is always deeper in gold 2 mode.

What recovery speed was used for the first two test I see the nickle at 16 inches at a reactivity of 1 which would be the deepest out of all the test combined. I believe factory preset is 3?

Very interesting info on the factory settings. How big are dimes and nickels please? Also how the hell has this got 2 thumbs down?

Went out with mowerdog yesterday and gave the equinox 800 some park time. I ran park 2 as you have yours set up. It ran great. I do wish iron would stop coming in vdi ranges that high conductors range in. Not sure if that is a software bug or not. Hopefully, minelab addresses it.

So do you still like your ct, v3i. And etrac more? Or are you switching

Great video. So You can build your custom setting and switched it on when need to cross check some doubtful deep signals. Also I'm curious if the threshold on would have some influence on death.?

Great info as I'm considering this one as my next purchase next month. Question: I never see you use the eTrac any longer. Is it outdated technology when compared to the new detectors? I love mine and I amaze other detectorists when I find coins they have just passed over with their newer models. Would appreciate your views on the eTrac still being a "goto" machine when u want to get serious about finding coins. Keep up the great videos my friend - you are my #1 choice for detector videos.

Very detailed analysis here thank you. I’m getting allot of falsing with iron on my Nox 600. It makes a loud beep like it’s something good when it should cancel the noise out. Nevertheless I’m getting constant falsing even with low sensitivity & an iron bias of 3 which is the highest setting on the Nox 600. I’ve tried with discrimination and all metal too. Not sure what else I’m doing wrong. Any help from yourself on what I can do to cancel out as much falsing is greatly appreciated.

Maybe the best setting for depth. Please ?

I'm sitting here waiting for my Equinox 800 to show up. I'm chomping at the bit! I found the "recovery" stats particularly interesting. Would you say it's a good idea to set the recovery rate to "1" for all the modes? Btw, I'm upgrading from my White's 5000D - ha.

Ok was this charts done with a air test or in dirt. Carl HH
