When it comes to the Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul universe, you can count on pretty much everything you see being deliberate.

The use of fading colour in the show’s opening sequence is another incredible example of storytelling that the show runners employ.

Our Better Call Saul finale discussion video is out now! If you're a huge fan of the show you will love it!

My analysis was that he was watching the vhs tape over again but yours is better

Love this analysis. If Breaking Bad’s main emotional thread was tragedy and drama, Better Call Saul’s is definetly melancholy and despair. Saul is willing to do whatever he can do fulfill his dreams, and knowing his fate makes the series deceptively sad.

I just realized that in the reflection of Saul’s glasses you could see color

Man imagine if the finale intro turns from black and white to full colour

I swear the reflection on his glasses at the beginning looks like anime blushing color

I personally thought this was the VHS slowly corrupting over time, just like Saul becomes more corrupt as the series goes on

I always noticed that the intro music abruptly stops, obviously intentionally, but not even on a finishing note

Finally a good use of YT shorts and the vertical format. Very interesting, thanks!

i more so thought of the intros progressing into no color was a resemblance of jimmy losing all of his truth, honesty, and integrity or what there was until season 6 where he is fully corrupt and there is no last bits left of a real lawyer

This shit is lowkey depressing. Good job.

I like the intro with the thing moving side to side fast, idk why tho.

Man, I tried explaining this to my sister while watching the show. My theory was that the color was draining because we were watching the present getting closer

I respect the writer for giving Saul such an incredible backstory. Insane to watch BB and not just see a funny lawyer Guy but a real character who we saw the highs and lows of before he fell too low

What’s your favourite episode of Better Call Saul?

In the first episode where gene was watching the tapes, there is a little colorful shading under his glasses which shows his earth now is colorless and all broken but it was colorful and cheerful back then (except chuck).

There has been a picture of gene takovic around for a while but I’m unsure of it’s origin, (maybe it was used as a season cover art or something in the first few seasons idk). But it’s jimmy clearly as gene with everything in black and white/ lifeless symbolism… everything is except the red suit he is putting on, probably to hint that at the end of season 6 in the gene timeline he will end up becoming Saul again because he can’t stand not being his true self

Mine is more simple, but I always interpreted it as Jimmy’s gradual loss of humanity. With each passing season, he loses a piece of his soul and becomes more and more corrupted.
