A lot of them are like "2 new units + random unpolular junks" box

I feel like Indomitus taught GW the wrong lesson. They “oh people LOVE Big Boxes”
When in reality it’s just
“We like models at a relatively reasonable price “

I basically survive off these sets and rarely buy anything else. Some might sit in my cupboard for a long time but i rarely don't finish the sets.

My rule of thumb is everything I want in the box has to be cheaper than only buying the parts i want from it separately. Its not a discount if i get a bunch of stuff i dont like and it was more expensive than just buying the bits i like.

12:40 Necron Immortals being in almost every single box set since 2019 made me think there's a warehouse somewhere that is just wall-to-wall Immortals sprues

Better name "Slightly less overpriced" boxes

I would like to them offer seasonal sales. It would definitely encourage me to buy from GW rather than just buying 2nd hand stuff.

God prices are getting so insane that at some point I hope everyone just throws in the towel. We won’t though, we are to addicted. But it’s a nice dream that we all stop and GW is forced to lower their prices.

There’s always 3 things in a discount box.
1 thing that you absolutely need and want, and is probably THE reason why you’ll buy the box.
1 thing that you want to give a go, build and paint, and perhaps even play and enjoy.
1 thing that you will have almost zero interest in and most likely have no chance of getting out of the sprues.

So most of us will see a discount box as “we’ll get a slight discount on 1 and 2, and get 3 for nothing”.

My issue with them as a returning player is that many of the units included are just simply not the ones you want to form the core of your army. Plus the number of points and discounts are wildly inconsistent from army to army. For example, look at the points and discount difference between Custodes and Necrons!!

A significant problem is just the ratio of price to the amount of stuff actually included in the box, especially when weighed against how much plastic is required to play the game.

Another thing to note is the typical inclusion of a random unit which is generally undesired.

In addition, short supply, particularly of the more desired boxes are incredibly frustrating as FOMO causes many to miss out.

I wish they would just sell upgrade sprues for kill teams. The prices are crazy high for some sets.

So based on the comment section it’s not just GW to blame. If you’re willing to buy multiple discount boxes but only interested in painting two units from the box before you buy another one helps contribute to GW selling at any price point. I mean if the customer is willing to buy a product they don’t intend to use only to buy more in the future who’s really to blame.

I just started this hobby earlier this year. My biggest fomo has been for box sets and edition launch boxes that contain bespoke minis and often sell for 2x msrp or more on ebay (dark imperium, indomitus, etc). As for other boxes, i bought the black templar army box, alaric champions, and veterans of the long war on ebay for less than msrp, so i realized that it’s usually better not to rush to get the battleforce boxes on launch. Another thing: since there are so many big box sets out there that come with additional value: upgrades sprues, codexes, rules books, i feel like i am wasting money if i buy a stand alone kit, like who would ever buy legionnaires or primaris crusade squad when you can just get the combat patrol and get so much more?

the worst part of discount boxes is selling the models that you didnt want in it and then realizing months later that you did want those models

Got back into Warhammer since 4th edition. Space marine vs dark eldar starter set. Picked myself up 1500 points of guard and 1500 points of necrons for my little brother to do hobbying with him and bring into the grim dark future. Now signed up for hachette partworks combat patrol today. My other older brother got back into tau and I now am considering hivestorm as well. I am definitely jumping in the deep end.

I love that they are both raising the prices of everything and lowering the discounts, it's like a superinflation lmao
