How to cover a cake in fondant flawlessly

One of the things I really struggled with in the beginning of my cake decorating career was how to cover a cake in fondant and get a clean finish. How to get super sharp edges, get that cake board edge covered up and basically look like a professional! In this tutorial I'm going to show you all my tricks I have learned over the last 11 years of cake decorating and everything I wish I had known when I was a beginner.

"By the time you're done, your back should be killing you. That's how you know you did it right!" I literally laughed & totally agree! Great video. Thank you!

I’ve been experimenting with fondant for a little bit and kept getting elephant skin EVERY time! 😩 it was pretty discouraging. For some reason all of the other tutorials I watched did not fully explain the importance of conditioning the fondant beforehand. And while I’d knead it I guess I didn’t condition it to where it needed to be. THANK YOU

I enjoy and appreciate all of your tutorials and tips you share, and I love your sense of humor and personality that comes through in these videos. My experience with cake decorating is minimal, as my interest in learning it is fairly new, although I have been cooking and baking for many years, and I love to paint, which seems to me to be somewhat related. All of this now takes on much more importance, as my son recently got engaged! And he and his bride have told me they would love for me to do the cake! (No pressure, right?) so I am trying out a number of cake recipes and decorating techniques, etc. thankfully they are planning for a long engagement, so I have some time to practice and get everything just right. But one challenge is that the bride is feeling very overwhelmed with all of the decisions, and is such a sweet girl and is more concerned about what her guests will like, as far as cake, than her own preference, which is making the decision very stressful for her. I think we may go with half and half vanilla and chocolate- keep it simple and traditional- and just use the absolute highest quality flavors and ingredients that I can get my hands on. Anyway, I just wanted to tell you how very helpful and important these tutorials are proving to be for me!

Hi from Australia. i have been making my families cakes for over forty years and have always used a piece of PVC pipe. when i started this hobby i was a single parent and could not afford all the tricks of the trade. i still have the original piece of pipe and he (ha ha) works just as well still as he did when i first used him. i was so pleased to hear you suggest this as i feel people can spend a fortune on the bits and pieces and probably not use them again. they either end up as land fill or in a thrift shop - nothing wrong with the latter. i am preparing to make my sister's 70th birthday cake (and this will be the third PURPLE cake i have made her) and found your post as i was checkinig out new methods because it is now probably 3 years since my last effort for someone. i have to say i enjoyed your post and look forward to watching more. thank you

I needed the refresh of the steps o making fondant. It has been a while since the complete process when I took the advanced classes on decorating cakes. I was trying to help inform others why the cake cost more in the labor, design ingredients, etc plus time.

This is the best, most informed video ive watched for using fondant! I stopped using fondant on cakes partly because I could never get it right when transferring to cakes, I am now gonna start using it again. THANK YOU!!!!

This video saved my skin! I've done all kinds of things with fondant but I've always been petrified of covering a cake in fondant. I recently risked taking an order for a fondant covered cake and have been nervous ever since. Your video made it easy. Thank you!!!
