I have a theory that’s mostly speculation and head canon:

I think Ambers uncle was maybe a scientist or a doctor of some sort and he experimented with an unknown liquid on one of his patients. The patients skin started turning a greyish hue, it became desiccated and quickly the patient started violently ripping its hair out and it started attacking. Since then, the creature killed the doctor who was working privately and the monster retreated into the forest, where it would adapt and learn a skill that hypnotises prey and somehow infects them, causing an outbreak of these creatures that hunt during the night and steal more people to multiply.
