Actor Cooper Koch, who portrays Erik Menendez in the show, recently opened up about his interactions with the real Erik. Koch revealed that his first conversation with Erik took place over the phone the night before the show premiered, not during a high-profile prison visit with Kim Kardashian as many might assume.

Koch shared with Variety that during their call, he expressed his belief in Erik’s innocence and emphasized how hard he worked to portray him authentically. They even discussed personal connections, like how both Koch’s father and Erik attended Beverly Hills High School. A few days later, however, Erik publicly criticized the series through a statement shared by his wife.

Koch explained that during their visit to the prison with Kardashian, Kris Jenner, and Khloé Kardashian, he acknowledged Erik’s frustrations, understanding how painful it must be to have such a traumatic period of his life televised. Koch said, "I understand, I get it, and I stand with you."

As for how Koch ended up visiting the Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility with Kardashian, it all started with a connection through his stylist. After a phone conversation with Kim, who praised his performance, she invited him to join the prison visit. During the trip, Koch had the chance to meet Erik face-to-face, continuing their conversation about the series and Erik’s life.
