Spruce are a mid-succession species as demonstrated by the graph. They don't start appearing until 20 years, and slowly increase until reaching their peak at around 120 years. After that, they start slowly declining, showing that they are not a climax species.

I noticed that the Essential knowledge for 2.7 contains two subjects you did not cover in the video: Keystone species and Indicator species. What are they? Are they important? Anyway thanks for the videos they're super cool you're literally carrying my APES attempt

The spruce trees are a middle successional species. This is because they appear the most around 100-140 years after the glacial retreat, so they aren't an early successional species. However afterwards, they start to decline in population, so they also aren't a late successional species. Therefore, they are a middle successional species.
