Today we are reacting to Madonna - Vogue (Live at the MTV Awards 1990). After coming fresh from my reaction to Madonna - Vogue Music Video, I just had to see a live performance of the song and this live performance was everything I was expecting and more. The choreography, the set, the costumes, the makeup, the faceography, and fanography, the whole live performance gave me major production vibes and I think its safe to say we all lived!

Fun fact; this was the first time they didn't drop the fans during the performance. They never all three got it during rehearsals.

People always talk about what she did for the lgbt community but they forget what she did for the black community in terms of visibility too. She had us in her music videos when black artists were banned on MTV.

If memory serves, her dress is Glenn Close's from "Dangerous Liaisons" which also inspired this performance. It's so fun to see someone view it for the first time because I watched it live when I was 8 years old! lol It's been in my memory for 30+ years. I learned the fan drop very shortly thereafter lol Just hold the top part and let the bottom flop open. Easy XD

My friend Vince Patterson choreographed this number. He read a biography on Marie Antoinette and came up with this concept and the dancing.

There’s a great documentary ab the dancers that really shows how much of a unstoppable phenomenon not only is Madonna, but how the actual dancers are and how they changed the culture back then. Jose and Luis Xxtravaganza choreographed the original vogue performance, and they are actual voguers Madonna saw at a nightclub and asked to be in her shows. Jose is the one u said gave precision “face” - he is also a consultant for the show Pose and he appears as a judge during the balls in both seasons and as a dancer.

Up until this live performance, neither 3 girls were able to do the fan toss during rehearsals without one of them dropping it. But this performance went off flawlessly. Then they repeated it successfully the following night for Aids project LA.

Thank you! I knew you'd love it! The dress is an original costume as worn by Glenn Close in the movie 'Dangerous liasons'. I think the whole premise of the performance is to compare how over the top and flamboyant the NYC voguing 'Ball scene' is to the French aristocratic setting. True art in the making!

The choreographers of vogue are the voguers Luis and Jose Extravaganza, from the house of Xtravaganza, and main dancers on the blond ambition era, Jose is the dancer who steps in her dress, and Luis the one with the killer lega.
