i had a brain storm. The reason why I so over weight is because I've got so much food in the house. We Americans have such an abundance. I've decided that I'm not going to buy ANYTHING until all of this food is gone, gone, gone. I'm hoping it works.

There are so many physical, practical suggestions to live on a low budget. I won't repeat any of these fabulous suggestions. But I will mention a mental or emotional or psychological suggestion: I get encouragement from other positive people who live on low budgets. People who never complain, never ask for anything. They make do with what they have, they are creative & resourceful. They never do without; they have what they need. And at the same time, they still give to others. They look & act like a million dollars. They have beautiful attitudes. These are the people who bring me down and give me discouragement, so I try to stay away from these: Those who are cheap, they never share or give or contribute, but they have tons of money in savings & investments. Some people are so cheap, they won't even buy an $8 sandwich every so often. It's your business how you live your life, its your business if you want to be cheap.

I set my thermostat to 67 in winter and 85 in the summer. I don’t buy makeup and only buy a few pieces of clothes a year. I’m moderate frugal, I eat out with family once a week. I buy better quality food and household items.

When my grand daughter and her husband got married, they lived on one income, and saved the rest. It was bare bones, but they did it! I think it was 3 years later, they had a sizeable amount to apply for a down payment on their house, with 20+ acres. Enough was left over for a smaller tractor with mower, so they can keep the pastures mowed for their horses. They doubled their payments and paid off the house/land in 5 years! People, you can do this if you are determined!

My bare bones budget is just as you described...and I'm living it out of need.
In addition:
I make one extra mortgage payment a year by making payments bi-weekly. It doesn't hurt a bit because mortgage payment each month is in the budget. I'm not used to skipping one because I've already paid it.
I use absolutely minimal utilities--all of them. Every time I get a bill, I challenge myself to make it lower the next month. I end up using less gas, less water, less electricity, etc.
I don't eat out. I allow $20 a year for it, but the last couple of years, I haven't had the desire for it.
I almost never drive. I can do almost everything online. Since January if 2021 I've filled up my car twice, literally. I know it sounds extreme, but it's just how it's turned out.
I'm still using up cleaners I'd previously bought. When they're gone, I'll make my own. I also dilute cleaners, because if you can still see bubbles, soaps are working. A repairman told me once that if you can see any bubbles in a front loader washing machine, you've put in too much soap, and that WILL damage the machine.
I use everything as long as possible and mend and repair as long as possible--to extend the life of things.
When I mend and repair, I use what I already have.
I drive cars into the ground do I don't have car payments.
On a few things I buy the best I possibly can do they'll last longer.
There are so many things I do to live my bare bones (but balanced) budget. It would take a book to list them all.
Good topic, Dawn. Love to you and your family, as always! ❤

Working as a teenager my parents required us to save 50% of our income we could blow the other 50% . I was able to buy a home 1 year after high school graduation. I still am an avid saver .

I live Florida. It's still hot here. I keep my thermostat on 77 in the summer and I use fans. I don't turn my heater on in the winter. I layer clothes in winter and use more blankets. Luckily it's not cold for long here. I hang up clothes to dry. I eat very little meat. Love your videos. Thanks for sharing

Years ago, I went bare bones. I also only spend $25 a month on groceries but I don't eat meat. I do eat beans & rice, water coffee, tea and no sodas. Still I think I show a variety of dishes in my videos to where you wouldn't miss meat or you can skip meat a few days a week. I get creative with my cooking but also only buy simple ingredients. I use windshield fluid for my window cleaner, so much cheaper. I hope these tips are helpful.

My family, and myself, don't go on vacations, I havn't been on a vacation in years. Love you all. My central air broke many years ago, and I use air purifies in multiple rooms, and fans in the summer, and a heater in the winter, my family use to block off rooms in the winter, and only heat a few rooms.

I have cut cut cut. No a/c or fans. I use the free breeze on my hill. I don't use hot water tank. Heat water with sun or boil as needed. Just took bath with water heated by sun. My hot water heater was costing $60-$80 several years ago and I said "no more ". I use a portable washing machine outdoors. Saves water, money, electricity and hang on line. Sometimes I use rainwater especially for my hair-free. I try to save money as much as possible. I buy food at bulk store. Every day items I do Walmart pickup so I am not tempted in store. I live very basic but is peaceful and calm. Works for me!

Ask friends and family for any and all cast offs. Could be clothing, household goods, food, toiletries, so many blessings have come my way because someone else has decided it wasn’t for them. Has helped tremendously!

In August I eat out of my freezer and spent almost nothing on food. Eggs and a bit of cheese can be mixed in with most any food.

Growing up we never had air conditioning in temperatures of 100, now I wish my body wasn't so conditioned to having it.🌞

Thx to your prior videos! I paid $75/mo internet for 4 years and called a few times NO reduction. Now finally a competitor in town a few months ago, called today and was told NO reduction, then escalated and politely asked for better rate, now $40 for 1 yr. Over $400 savings in 1 yr. Always escalate and be respectful to the persons on the other end.

Thank you for all of this great info!
I switched to Mint Mobile $15 a month. works for me! No mortgage, or truck payment. My utilities, truck/house insurance and internet total are under $500 a month. Its just me and Im 50 years old. I live in the country, and I live pretty frugal. I don't buy paper plates or paper towels. I unplug everything when not using and I do not have cable or a smart TV. I only use my TV to watch movies. I do keep the temperature in my home at 75 in the summer and 65 in the winter. And I rarely eat out.

Living on essentially bare bones budget for 15 years due to high housing and can't work a 2nd job. AC does not go on until 82-85 inside. Flush toilets less and take fewer showers. Enjoy various topics of interest on You Tube. Make all my own meals at home. Put any extra $ saved into mortgage paydown. I don't recommend such a severe way of living for so long, it does have a non monetary cost.
