After the huge release that was Home Assistant 2023.7, they are back again with the August update of 2023.8. This month we see big changes to the way events are handled, AI Image generation support, shopping list improvements and wildcard support for Assist!

Maybe this can help me to finally move forward with the idea of listening to any audio source on any speaker in the house (even simultaneous synced speakers?)

Can someone explain the new checkboxes for Triggers? Are they 'AND' statements if multiple triggers are selected for a single condition?

What camera/addon/type of stream are you using for your camera's? That start of the Nest Hub camera stream was almost instant! Whenever I try to stream RTSP to a Nest Hub it takes a few seconds to load.

Lewis I was hoping that you were going to say more about the MQTT breaking changes. I usually check the breaking changes but normally they don't have a big impact on me. However when I updated to 2023.8 it highlighted problems with the naming of all my MQTT entities. So for the first time I rolled back to the previous release whilst I find out what I need to to do with over 30 MQTT entities that HomeAssistant has a problem with. I am using the Zigbee2MQTT integration., am I the only one with an issue here?

The one I added didn't make it to the headlines, but if you have a pool or an aquarium, now sensors can have a PH device class.

can google home assist work locally offline ? internet provider is doing local upgrades at our location shutting the entire block down for a day. Can i still use google for lights and powering up audio and video equipment via my router through local wifi ?

Coming from SmartThings and Hubitat the events where and still are a bit confusing. Especially for something like doorbell press not just being an entity I can play with. I had to make template sensors out of them after watching for them. Hopefully this will help out folks coming from those platforms get started quicker. Great vids!

i've been using home assistant for a while now but i feel like i'm barely scratching the surface of what it can do. is there a tutorial or a reference manual that explains stuff, like trigger types or action types, what they are good for and how to use them? that would help A LOT.

also, is it possible to trigger an automation when a measured value (like humidity) changes, not just when it crosses a threshold?

Great insight! with the events piece, I have been pursuing the capturing of commands given to Alexa forever... such as commands given to turn on/off boolean entities and was wondering if that is improved to capture as a middleman the buttons pushed on an firetv remote.

I think the MQTT Breaking changes are the thing that will affect me the most out of this. The Wildcard support is probably up there with my favourite fetures.

HI how are you. i install home assistant in a raspberry pi 4 8gb and 512sd. using the raspberry pi installer, but the store is blank. nothing there. maybe you can help me? because i cant find a good solution. i think home assistant without the store, is not worth it. or maybe i, m wrong

Do you know of ANY remotes that can be simple zwave zigbee thread whatever for home theater? I literally need something that has labeled buttons but just sends events. I can program stuff myself. It would replace harmony and other crap for 90% of people
