Love the fact you included commercials that match with the period - awesome job. Thank you for making this!

The fact that Master System still sold SO LATE in it's lifespan, wow. Also, NIntendo holding positions 2, 3 and 4 with two total handhelds and one hybrid, and that the DS is so close do the PS2... incredible. Also, such a bummer that the Wii U didn't even get to show its head here hahaha.

Poor Wii U. Didn’t even make an appearance lol. The switch really did save Nintendo. Wow. I remember them saying this is their last shot at a console. Glad it did so well

As someone who isn't really into handhelds, I definitely had no idea the DS was that popular! I knew it was very successful of course but didn't think it'd be number 2 on the list. Sometimes YouTube recommendations work beautifully. I love stuff like this!

Once Final Fantasy VII, Tomb Raider 2, and Gran Turismo 2 came out for PS1, it was unstoppable.

It's pretty interesting to see how many consoles only start selling really well at the end of what what one might consider to be their lifespans (as in the next generation of consoles were close to being or already released).

I swear the mass production of the microchip in 1971 did for electronics what the renaissance did for art

I think my favorite part of this chart is the moment the PS2 beat the Game Boy, the Nintendo DS immediately started soaring through the ranks like Nintendo was saying "No fucking way".

Only to just stop short by about a million units. Tragic.

Still amazed by the fact that _Nintendo Switch_ earned its place among such "Titans" like PS2 and DS.

Excellent. I had, in order, NES, SNES, Genesis, N64, PS1, PS2, GBA, PS3, and PS4. Still play PS2 and PS3 quite a bit.

One little detail here is 1983 was the great video game crash. Atari sold 25 million consoles between 1977 and 1983 and only 5 million after 83 until 1992 (I would imagine most of them were sold outside of North America and Europe) Plus the crash ended the Intellivision, Coleco Vision and 5200 consoles.

Pretty cool that 3 of the top 5 are Nintendo consoles! Glad to see the Nintendo DS at #2! That was probably my favorite console and most played with the GBA advance close second for me!

The PS2 was on the market for 13 years, while the Nintendo DS was on the market for 10 years. Just like the Switch on the market for 7 years and sold 149.72M units

Selling over 100M in consoles is INSANE. Love that for us.
