Hi everyone! I'm an American from the Northeast (New England). I want to create a watering hole for people who want to discuss, learn and teach about history through YouTube videos which you guys recommend to me through the comment section or over on Discord. Let's be respectful but, just as importantly, not be afraid to question any and everything about historical records in order to give us the most accurate representation of the history of our species and of our planet!

Also my TikTok :)

PMQs is very good and very important as a part of holding the government to account and exposing its weakpoints. It also exposes the strengths and weaknesses of the opposition.

Do you really imagine this would ever happen in America? Can you see a US president being grilled on live TV every week like this? It is at the least more overtly democratic than other systems. And also funny.

I find the noise serves to make it amusing enough to listen to.

For once the great Jay Forman is not quite correct about something. The PM does know what the questions are going to be, because the civil service prepares answers for the PM. However the questioners then get to ask supplementary questions on the back of their submitted questions, and those questions the PM does not know in advance.

Most people don’t realise that the important work is carried out in the Committee Rooms where the committee is proportionately representative of the HoC.
The chamber is merely a shop window. This is why, unless a good speaker is on his/her feet the place is practically empty.
No, the members are not asleep. There are loudspeakers in the backs of the seat. In order to listen to them members have to tip their heads backwards.
Those objects hanging down are microphones.
Re PMQ: there used to be two sessions a week but were reduced to one by Tony Blair because he was so often made to look foolish.

Jay should update this to cover the current PM. It’s like watching a drunken mop that mumbles, bumbles and talks nonsense!

Remember that the PM is the Head of Government, So as the US President is also Head of Government could you seen Trump or Biden questioned by President's opposition!!

Another tradition in Parliament is the white lines in front of the respective front benches. In the earlier days of Parliament it was common for gentlemen to wear swords, and the rule was that a sword may not cross the white line. It was put in place to prevent brawls, which did happen from time to time.

MPs say "my friend" only when referring to members of their own party.

The debate chamber of the house of Commons was designed to be too small to fit every MP (approximatly 2/3 of MPs can sit comfortably) partly due to being cheap and partly for the atmosphere. For like 90% of the time the are only 30-40 MPs present in any session of Parliament. There are very few occasions when everyone needs or wants to be in the chamber.

If you are not sure of yourself or your subject, don’t stand up in the House of Commons. Infact don’t represent me and the people where I live.

PM's question time is a joke, I recommend taking a look at one of the following to see Parliament at its best... The debates on Syria, Iraq or Afghanistan. Any speech by Tony Benn or Ken Clarke

PMQs is brilliant. I don't think you'd see another head of government humbled in the way the British PM is during PMQs anywhere else in the world (and I say that as a Conservative voter but as a lover of Democracy)

Connor, you are learning too much about our nonsensical customs... I have to tell you that 99% of Brits find the noise at PMQs as utterly ridiculous... it gives the members of parliament a bad reputation... they howl each other down, and it is totally stupid.... and they do it for fun.

Biden wouldn’t do well in this format as he doesn’t want to, or can’t, take unscripted questions from the Press !
