The way i get the doot doots on the acoustic without sounding like complete garbage is i do the normal progression on my freting hand and on my pick hand do DAD for every strum and barely let it resonate allowing it to mimic the doot doots (please tell me there is a shorter way to phrase this)

I would suggest tapping your finger when you hit the D string it cuts off the note making it sound a little better otherwise good job!
