I’ve been diligently working, saving and contributing towards financial freedom and early retirement, but the economy so far since the pandemic has eaten away most of my portfolio, what I want to know is this: Do I keep contributing to my portfolio in these unstable markets or do I look into alternative sectors.

America is currently plagued by the hydra-headed evil duo of inflation and recession. The worst part about this recession is that consumers are racking up credit card debt. In April alone, credit card debt went up 20% while rates have doubled in a year. Inflation is so high that consumers are literally taking debt for basic life necessities. Collapse has indeed begun..

About a decade ago, I worked briefly with JPM and experienced a unique benefit. Every employee who had worked for a certain period and was still on the payroll received an annual bonus regardless of their performance. It was called the “Jamie Dimon Bonus” and it was quite generous. This was in addition to any performance bonus or other benefits. I have never seen such a gesture in any other organization in my nearly two decades of work experience.

This is a fabulous example of a great interviewer who knows how to ask questions and a interviewee who can get to the point and convey his message in a way that everyone can understand. Well done The Economist!

With changes in the economy leading to instability in the stock market, some individuals may face a decrease in their investments in an effort to benefit from the current market conditions, I am considering liquidating my $725k portfolio consisting of bonds and stocks. Someone else in the same situation? Please tell me in the comments!..

This administration is just the worst, the crises we're facing is government inspired. The Treasury have to sell Bonds to cover the trade imbalance and the government spending imbalance. In order to sell them they have to raise interest rates and the old long-term, low risk, low interest, AAA investments (including Treasury Bonds), held by the banks (often due to government regulatory policy), become next to worthless. The next milestone is the 15th when the government issue a new batch of Bonds. I have approximately 350k stagnant in my portfolio that needs growth. What is the best way to take advantage of this downturn?

GREAT CONTENT. The market and the Fed consistently underestimate the sticky nature of inflation. The markets are still unsure if the Federal Reserve will continue to its plan to raise interest rates until inflation is under control, despite the fact that bond yields are rising while stock prices are falling. What is the greatest strategy to take advantage of the current bear market while I'm still deciding whether to sell my $400k worth of stocks?

Great interview.

What an incredibly reasonable man. I think the comment about needing practice before running for President is exactly right.

Some transferable skills, a lot of complexities that don't exist in the private sector.

Since Biden took office, there seem to have been more unfavorable results in America. These results include effects on the markets, such as price declines and sharp increases in inflation, as well as bank failures. I wonder if the sudden increase in interest rates will help value investors or if it would be wiser to stay away from the stock and financial markets for the time being.

“We should be looking at our own flaws, and not always blaming other people”. A sentiment that I wish many many more of my fellow Americans would adopt. This nonsense that self criticism is unpatriotic is the stuff of deluded, weak minded, confused, frightened, people

Why be President when you already control whoever is President?

See how he advises that we begin conversations, "how is your family" before even talking about anything else....! Fantastic Jamie.
