The actors that mentioned they thought it was a comedy because of how they were directed to play their characters. There is quite frankly nothing scarier than people who go over the top when doing horrible things, because it shows the characters have no remorse or even shame about what they are doing.

sissy and the mom were amazing in this. It is perfect that the actress chose to go for comedy. It comes off perfect for the character.

This film was made in the 70's when scary movies were actually scary and not about
hot actors, dumb dialogue and jump scares.

This is the first and only movie I ever saw that really scared me. First time I ever watched it…I was about 13 and I had a friend that had a Halloween birthday and she of course lived next to an abandoned “haunted” house (as in a house they said was haunted…not one made as an attraction) and she had a slumber party and we watched it and went and explored the house. When her hand popped up…I just about pissed myself.

Sissy also kept the blood on her so that it looked the same for every scene filmed which meant she stayed in that bloodied prom dress and hair for days.
