PREVIEW: Behind the Scenes: 2018 Pacific Regional, Day 2

Held at the Qudos Bank Arena in New South Wales, Australia, the Pacific Regional hosted athletes from the Asia and Australasia regions, and producer Michael McCoy went behind the scenes to catch them in their most challenging and celebratory moments.

Day 2 brings high-skill gymnastics in Event 3 and heavy snatches and burpees in Event 4. As the athletes prepare for the day’s work, McCoy sits down with 2017 Games athlete Ricky Garard for an exclusive interview.

Garard, who stood on the 2017 Games podium in third place, was disqualified and stripped of his placing when he tested positive for testolone and a beta-2 agonist known as endurobol. He was issued a four-year ban from any CrossFit-sanctioned competition.

Garard, who’s spectating at the Pacific Regional, says if he could go back in time, he’d make different choices.

“At the time, it was just a very uneducated decision,” he says. “I was very naive to the situation, thinking that what I was doing was OK. It wasn’t until it all unfolded that (I had) a big realization. … I’m very regretful when I look back on it.”
