MOST CORRUPT VI: Richard Nixon - Forgotten History

All world leaders, especially American presidents have their legacies. Some of these are either good or bad, but nearly all can be balanced out by examining both the positive and negative impacts of their administrations.
Few presidents have stirred as much controversy as Richard M. Nixon and Lindon B. Johnson. Nixon succeeded the presidency after Johnson and inherited the Vietnam War and a severely divided nation. Hosted by Colin D. Heaton. Forgotten History is a 10th Legion Pictures Production.

Nixon and his contemporaries were naughty boy scouts compared to what is normal now. We also have today's post-modern insanity, as well. The people who gave us that were in college when Nixon was in the White House.

Nixon resigned when I was a freshman in HS, Six from my HS were killed in Vietnam and teachers blamed Nixon as I grew older I learned the whole story.

Hated him during his terms of office but now I have changed my mind. He was actually pretty brilliant, especially at foreign relations and policy (in spite of his crazy VN operations). I did a term paper on Nixon right after his funeral and there was plenty of information available. I learned a lot from researching that paper 30 years ago and I appreciate the video.

Nixon was tame compared to today's wicked weasels

His biggest mistake was running cover for Watergate. He should have just left it alone. Was he encouraged by someone to get involved or just act on his own?

Nixon was my Dad's cousin. I got to meet "Uncle Dick & Aunt Pat" in Illinois around Christmas, 1960. He was out of office and was at a family get-together. They brought small gifts for every kid and Uncle Dick called us up by name, like Santa in a suit and tie and they came across as very nice and thoughtful.
I don't see how he can be Most Corrupt anymore.

I have really been enjoying this “Most Corrupt” series. Awesome work. I’m stoked to watch this later today! I hope you had a good Veterans Day, Mr Heaton.

Nixon was a saint compared to today's politicians.

I'm pretty sure the famous Nixon quote "you won't have Nixon to kick around anymore" came after his loss of the California governorship to "Pat" Brown in 1962.

Nixon created the EPA? Yes, acid rain was an important problem back then. I wish more safeguards had been written into the EPA's inception to prevent abuse. Thank you for this series. History is very important.

I agree with my father-in-law when it came to Nixion, despite his blemishes he still was a good president who did a lot of good for the country. Unfortunately he did one thing that others had done but got caught doing it!

I have one suggestion that I have at other historians but never got a clear answer…what would the world be like if Germany had won the WW1…would we have avoided WW2? We all know what the world have under the Nazi but what would it been like if the Kaiser was victorious?

In light of who Nixon replaced, he seems like an altar boy.

I have found that you were series about the presidents corruption to be very enlightening. I grew up as part of the post World War II babies. I was very naïve when it came to the machinery of the political system. I always thought we were the good guys. That we wore the white hats and we came to the rescue. it is sobering to look back over the last 70 years of my life and realize it was all part of a political show. I know there are many people in this country with high values, but very few of them seem to rise to the higher levels of government. And now we have a World ruling system that is probably the most corrupt thing since the dark ages. My only hope is for a loving God to resolve our world situation. How he will do that I have no idea. I think we have past the point of no return as far as human or political solutions go.

It is very unfortunate that Nixon's welfare reform that would have replaced AFDC was defeated. Due to its provisions AFDC led to the breakup of the core family and thereby society. The effect was felt most acutely in Black families. Although AFDC has been since replaced we are still feeling its effects today as the cultural effects of this plan have been long-lasting. The key flaw in AFDC was the requirement that the father had to be absent from the household in order to allow benefits. Thus, the government paid families to break up.

Johnson was a big proponent of the Vietnam War, he made quite a bit of money due to investments in Bell helicopter, etc....

This was a very good talk.
I think that Nixon, all in all, was an honorable man. He respected his parents, and he was forthright with his finances. Of note, he spoke without a teleprompter. I am looking forward to the upcoming talk.

Johnson did not inherit the Vietnam war. He was the Vietnam war.

He has my admiration for resigning the presidency because he didn’t want to see harm come to the country.

Mr. Heaton, I thoroughly enjoy the content you deliver. These subjects you cover matter. History, regardless of who's panties gets in a wad, must be told truthfully. There's a lot of people out there now that's doing their best to rewrite/erase history, and by talking with most younger folks, they are winning. That said, thank you for what you're doing...the good fight sir.
