The corolla is the ultimate car to buy if you don’t have a load of money and want to keep the car for 15-20 years

Purchased a 2024 Corolla Hybrid XLE as a replacement for a buy back 2023 Hyundai Elantra Hybrid Limited. The Elantra had more passenger and trunk room, more cubby storage, quicker acceleration, larger 10.25" screens (vs 7 & 8 ") and ventilated seats. The Corolla has softer "pseudo leather" seats, a bit better mpg (55.6 after 700 miles), smoother suspension, a more conventional cabin and traditional exterior. The optional JBL 800 watt/9 speaker stereo in the Corolla sounds a little better than the 8 speaker Bose in the Elantra but both fill the cabin quite well. Lastly, the Corolla was $2K cheaper. The main reason for the buy though is reliability as the Hyundai's battery died within three weeks. Pleased with the "boring" Corolla so far.

the Car has 3 important things, affordable, reliable and a good mpg, the rest is more mediocre. In the past i had 3 Corolla´s and not once did let me down, they run and run. Thanks 😀.

I liked enough that I bought a 2023 LE model for my wife, it’s a very nice car and my wife loves it! It’s our first ever Toyota car, the price was reasonable in today’s insane market, and the gas prices are basically a non issue with 50+ real work mpg!

I just want Toyota to make a Hybrid Corolla Hatchback using the new Prius 2.0L hybrid system. Is that too much to ask for Toyota? I never understood why America never got a Corolla Hatchback Hybrid while Europe and Japan did. It's all made in the same factory in Japan.

I had a 1978 Corolla, (I bought it in 1983 for my college car). It had 70K miles on it and paid $500 to my sister as it was her college car.
It was a bare bones. Vinyl bucket seats and flooring. It was White with Tan interior. 4cyl, 4spd manual transmission.
I changed the oil and filter every 3K miles and changed the transmission and rear end grease every 30K miles.
After Grad school I had a Ton of student loans, so I kept driving my Corolla.
After my loans were paid off I wanted to buy a house, so instead of car payments, I continued driving my Corolla.
After I bought my first house, you guessed it, I continued to drive my Corolla.
When it had about 350K miles the rear end began to howl so I removed the rear seats and stuffed the back end with very dense foam and replaced the rear seat so I didn’t have to hear the rear end howling.
Around 400K miles the drivers seat was worn out so I got an old phone book, put it in the seat, then put a dense foam over the phone book and added seat covers to the front seats.
The vinyl flooring was worn down to the metal floor board, so I bought floor mats.
It was burning a quart of “Honey” oil every 1K miles, but I kept driving it.
In Mid 2002 my 78 Corolla finally died at 488K miles.
I bought a new Camry and drove it until 2011 when I decided to buy a new RAV4, 4WD Limited with the 3.5 V6 and a 5spd automatic transmission.
Last December (2022), I decided to sell my Rav for a different vehicle that got better mileage, so I bought a Subaru Forester Touring with saddle brown leather interior.
The fuel economy isn’t any better, , but the traction and stability of my Forester is Superior over the new RAV4 and the Venza hybrid AWD that I tested before choosing the Subaru.
When I turn 70, I’ll treat myself to a new Lexus 350h and drive that until the day I die.

0 to 60 times are much faster than in the 60s, 70s, 80s cars with large V8s. We have become obsessive in this regard. “ There’s more to life than increasing its speed.”

Would be great to see a ~190hp corolla with the base Prius system. Hoping that's what they do for the next generation. Some of us still prefer sedans to crossovers.

The fact that Toyota seems to be under producing their lower cost models is very frustrating. I’ve been waiting two years to get this model without being gouged by a dealer. I don’t believe any of the excuses for lack of production anymore. 10 months ago a dealer near me was asking $35k for an XLE. Insanity! They seem to have plenty of Rav’s, Taco’s, Highlanders now but barely anything in the Corolla family.

Hoping to see what changes were made to the Corolla Cross for 2024.

great review. Just purchased a black one for 27k. Very hard to come by. It fell into my lap because someone backed out of a 6 month pre order. If you see one available under 28-30k you might want to consider it. This was in Pennsylvania

Oh, and the Limited Prius in So CA was at a minimum $9K more expensive due to markups, er dealer market adjustments and unwanted dealer installed options (door edge guards, etc.).

How does it do in the rain? I live in South Texas, specifically San antonio, and we get rain by the deluge when it does come.

I have watched several of your reviews and finally subscribed. Enjoyed the opening syntax humor. Do you remember the book, "Eats Shoots and Leaves" with what might have been an omitted comma?

You really sold me on the vehicle but when I tried getting the same interior I couldn’t find it on my dealerships nearby. 😢

Do these not come in the 2.0 liter? I see a option for it but every model only has the 1.8
