If you look at how the chains are open on the originals you could literally use spray pained (or coloured) plastic shower curtain hooks, it would cost so much less, weigh a lot less and look good in a very large room.

The flickering is caused by the different speed of light pulses being emitted from the light bulb in relation to your camera's frame rate. This is common with florescent light bulbs. :)

The dry wall studs you used (the plastic thing the screw went into) should only be used on walls and not ceilings. A swag hook and wing that sandwich the ceiling and the wing speads the weight over the 2 or so inches instead of it all being right on that screw.
