Bringing California and Texas together in an 'unholy' alliance kind of makes sense here. IMHO the movie makers wanted to make it difficult for the audience to choose sides while watching the movie. There is no blue vs red and that's a good thing.

If we keep going the way we are going right now, this will go from being a movie to a historical documentary: Sad fact is that we have lost the ability to have a civilized debate and reason with each other to come to a common consensus; everything is about political advantage of one side over the other. I began to worry about this during the Covid-19 Pandemic, when instead of working together, there was endless bickering and political grandstanding.
