I don't get it. Weren't state borders agreed upon and settled following the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991? Why does Russia start changing borders now - when they were already agreed upon and confirmed back in the 90s? Doesn't Russia have enough territory? (largest country in the world by territory)? What Russia is doing is very counterintuitive and wrong on so many levels. Hopefully, they will get punished severely in the coming months.

Looks like Ukraine has reached the borders of Russia around Kharkiv

The front lines seem to be stabilizing. If they can remain stable for a couple of weeks, perhaps a month at most, we will see a similar effect to what happened in Northern Ukraine where the Russians will eventually be forced with withdraw or face slaughter. Also annexing Kherson would be a strategic mistake by the Russians. I know what they're thinking with it. They're thinking that, thus far, offensive operations against Russian territory has been considered taboo. In fact, it is likely that the Ukrainians would lose a great deal of their international support if they started trying to seize Russian territory. So the Russian thought is that if Kherson is annexed, the Ukrainians would face backlash from their allies if they try to recapture it. I don't think this is accurate, though, as most of their allies still don't even recognize Crimea as legitimately belonging to the Russians. More likely is that if they annex Kherson and try to make it an issue of "oh no Ukraine is invading our territory", it will only end up backfiring with Ukraine actually seizing some of Russia later on.
